I was wondering if the mesh pocket on the side of the flipside 400 would fit a 32oz Nalgene bottle or if it's only big enough for a regular sized bottled water.

32 oz is quite a bit. I don't have that particular bag, it's the larger of all the flipsides, it may depend on what the bottle looks like. The nalgene looks pretty wide.

I have a 300 and a 32oz barely fits. Difficult both to get in and out, probably would tear out the mesh if you did it all the time. Unless the 400 is deeper so the mesh pocket is bigger, I doubt it would fit.

I can fit a 1L bottle on mine(flipside AW400), I even use the other side to put my tripod if I'm using a larger ballhead (bh-55). The bag has been with me all over the world and I love it. It is secure, the raincoat attached to it really works. I went to the beach and did island hop and rain was pouring but all of my equipment stayed dry. I also have the 300 but i put it away since the 400 is perfect for 3 lens, 2 DSLR with grip, I have a 5DMKII and XSI. I can also fit 2 flash, a 580EX II and 430EX II and a sekonic lightmeter along with 2 PW FlexTT5 and 1 MiniTT1. For the outside pocket, you can fit a mini netbook, filters, blowers, extra batteries, P Cokin holders and filters. I'm completely satisfied with the bag.

No I'm not a photographer, I just shoot with Canon DSLR with those lenses with red thingy...;)

I have the 400AW and it fits a 750ml (approx 25 oz) Camelback bottle with a little room left. The Nalgene's are wider so it would be very tight but I think it would probably fit.

Thanks for the info! I have one more question regarding the flipside 400. Does it have slip lock loops above the mesh pockets on the side or is it only on the shoulder straps?

There are sliplock loops above the 2 mesh pockets.
