The Thunderbirds were giving a flying demonstration at the Rhode Island Air Show yesterday. A few shots....

After my attempt at shooting the T'birds, I can say that you have some outstanding skills there! 70-200 ?

The Herc shot is pretty cool. The Thunderbirds and Blue Angels are fun to watch, but unfortunately all their photos start to look the same after a while. Nice shots though.

great shots, but I do think the one plane being partially hidden in the first one detracts from the shot but other than that nice job

Thanks, but you are too kind. It was my first attempt at objects moving at high speeds. I normally shoot landscapes in RAW, so this was new territory for me.

The venue was very bright, but with moving clouds that blocked the sun from time to time. Keeping that in mind, I used auto white balance, ISO 100, and Program Mode. To take advantage of the 6+ fps of the 40D, I shot JPGs, and set the drive to high speed with servo AF. I was also using a Picture Style setting with punched up color saturation, sharpening, and contrast. With those settings, it was fairly easy.... just focus on the planes, pan and fire away.

The lens was my 70-200 f/2.8, which really wasn't long enough... kinda wished I had the 100-400. That may be my next purchase.

Now that you've got that CYA out of the way, I suggest that you go back to RAW & pick your shots the next time.

I used auto white balance, ISO 100, and Program Mode.

I'm curious. What % of your shots came out perfect & what % needed some PP to save them?

My version of #4 using my 70-200 IS with the 1.4 EXII

I think I enlarged and cropped a little. I'll have to go back and find my original.

You know, I have the 1.4x TC too, but didn't bring it! Glad to see it worked out for you, that's a great shot!
