when i view shooting information and at the top where it says file name along side there it says 54654.CR2 is this the total number of shots taken with my 40D this in DPP Software...............

Mine says 597Y6640.CR2 and my camera body has 6640 shots on it and I use different cards in mine and it doesn't change it at all. As has been proven through the years, the filename is not the shutter count. You can reset the filename in the menu, as well as change the filenames by putting in cards that have higher named files.
