Hello all. I have 2 Manfrotto tripods which I do like. I mostly use them for macro photography and flower shots. I ABSOLUTELY HATE the mounting plates that Manfrotto uses and really need something different. They are always loosening up at inopportune times. So basically I need a head and mounting plate that is easy and quick to use, but sturdy and doesn't come loose all the time. I've heard good things about the Really Right Stuff heads, but I'd just like some recommendations. I don't want to buy a new 'pod, so I want something that will work with Manfrotto. Thanks! BC

I have the original Acratech Ultimate head and I'm quite happy with it. Just make sure that whatever you get it uses the Arca-Swiss mount, not a proprietary mount like Manfrotto.

Thank you! Worth looking into. I forgot to mention that yes, it is a ballhead that I wanted.

I would venture to guess that when you start getting to the price point and quality of heads such as Acratech, Kirk, RSS, or Arca-Swiss, that you can't go wrong with whatever you choose.
