Anyone want to talk me out of getting the Sigmalux?

I went and pulled a lot of the "contextual portraits" I have taken over the past 3 years and did a focal length analysis and determined that more were shot at 50mm than any other FL (using zooms).

So I think a good available light 50mm prime is in order.

I don't want to shell out $1400 for 50L.

The "Sigmalux" is looking like the best candidate for me vs. the Canon 50 1.4.

I know that it can be iffy in terms of getting one that focuses accurately, but if you do, the lens is a keeper.

Anyone want to talk me out of it?

Do you need AF? If not, do look at the Zeiss alternative. I had the Sigma 50mm 1.4, whilst stellar for others it had too many issues for me. I'm in the market for a good 50mm. I've narrowed it down to the best two. It's either the 50L or the 50/2 ZE.

I'm trying to cure my L lens addiction by buying Zeiss.

No, I'm talking about the Zeiss 50mm f2 makro. Far better than the 1.4, which infact is not great till f2.8. The 50/2 ZE is sharp from the word go.

ahh wish I could help but mine focuses fine and is a fantastic lens.. I tried my friends 50/1.2L and 50/1.4 first but saw no reason to justify getting either over the Sigma.

I went looking at all 3 and liked the Sigma the most. If I'd of liked the Canon f1.2 I'd of bought it. Definately didn't like the Canon 1.4. Only thing I worried about on the Sigma was getting one that had to go back to fix the front back focus problem. But since it's new. It goes back for free. Can't fix what I didn't seem to like about the F1.2 and F1.4. All image quality.

Have a look at some of the sample photos and see if the "onion ring" bokeh bugs you. If not, then I say go for it. I got a Sigmalux and I like it :)
