Well, look how fun those cute shots of the fruit splashing water are to make!! Yay!!

There were a few things I did not know when getting into this project:

- A lot happens in 1/6400 of a second.
- Sliced fruit will not simply sink into the water.
- Sparkling Water gives you way too many bubbles. (If cold, condensation).
- Fruit cut thicker or in halves, tends to hit the water in an angle.

After many adventures, this is what I was able to come up with. Now remember, I was using my 18-55 lens, and also no adecuate lighting. The rig I made worked ok, but the sparkling water wasted half of my time. Oh!!, and the $15dollar container did not open from the top as I thought, so I had to somehow deal with that.

PP is quite primitive, but I gots to get ready for work in the morning. This is just my first attempt.

Almost a thousand clicks of chuckle chuckle (notice sarcasm).
What was fun though, was me individually bagging each fruit at the store, and showing up at the Cashier's line. The looks I got were priceless. Next time I am taking the camera with me.
:)

Nice shots for a first attempt!

It definitely looks like these were cropped though; were you just unable to get focus so close or did you not want to subject the camera to a little water ;)?

Good Question. Well, the container was pretty small. I had no tripod, so they both had to share the same table. They had the 10 gallon tank for 10 bucks, in the end it would have been cheaper to go simple with the fishtank, and then regular ambient temp water.

And yeah, I did try with the 50mm, but the fruit was so dang impossible to capture period, that I ended up opting for removing the 50mm and going somewhere between 18-55.

As for speed, up to 1/1000 the fruit was not sharp enough. So I had to eventually spike it up to 6400 in Tv, which was fine.

I did get some pretty interesting pointers on the how and why's, so I will be researching those during the week, and hopefully next weekend give it another shot, with water in a proper tank. And if there is a tripod, I will be able to put the camera wherever is best.

Thanks for checking it out!!

Savvy...

I did not dare use the built in, it would have added to the confusion. :)

Nice shots! I bet on round 2 it'll be much better.
If you were really shooting 1/6400 with those work lights I think you could drop shutter speed a few stops and either lower iso or stop down a bit to get a bit more quality.
I dig the last shot, nice clean black background. For a light background you might want one light just on the background to blow it out white without hitting the fruit? The sorta muddy grey doesn't look great to me. Show us more! :)

Anywhere from 640 to 1000. :) Not happy about that.

Thanks for all the good comments.

Got some pastel colored paper for the background, with different shades. I will also use flash to light up the fruit, while stopping down the ISO, and having no bothersombe bubbles anywhere.

I feel a good 2nd try coming on!!...
