I'm replacing my camera bag, and as everyone is aware the choice and types are overwhelming.

I currently use a Tamrac 5535 Adventure Messenger 5 (external link) - but it doesn't fit my gripped 7D very well. On top of that, I don't carry a laptop any more, so I don't need that space.

So - I would love a messenger bag that can take:

  • 7D gripped, with a 28-75mm Tamron attached
  • Small kit zoom lens. 50mm Prime. Lensbaby.
  • 580 exII
  • Associated cables, cards, batteries.

I'd love to be under $100. I also love the weathered / canvas look of the Domke's and retrospective think tanks - but mostly they seem to be out of my price range right now.

Suggestions?

7D (gripped) | GoPro Hero HD | Canon 70-200mm f/4 L | Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 | 40mm f/2.8 | 85mm f/1.8 | 28mm f/1.8 | 3 * 600EX-RT - All gear

I'd see about pushing your price envelope a bit and going for the Domke F3x. At Adorama or B&H I see they're going for between $120 and $135 depending on the colour you get, and they wear like iron, so you won't be needing to replace one any time soon. My oldest Domke is close to 30 years old.

Thats close enough to my budget, I could probably swing it in a month or two.

The Domke bags always look smaller than I'd expect, considering what they say they will fit too.

That's because they don't have a lot of "protective" padding adding bulk. An F3x is an excellent choice. Reminds me - I need to pack mine for vacation.
