How much do I charge?

I normally take and sell landscapes; black and white, and color. However, I have a job to take approximately 200 photos for a yoga book. People in yoga poses, studio work, black and white, plus a color cover, probably 30-40 hours when the dust settles, plus expenses in the $450 range.

How much is an equitable amount to charge? Would you charge by the hour? and how much per hour?

By the book sold? and how much per book?

Flat rate?

I would really appreciate any input.

So, you're looking at a week of shooting. Are you going to spend much time in consults and meetings before the shoot? Propping or prepping, test shooting? How much time do you think post processing will take (add 50% to your expected time)? Will you charge for reshoots or do they expect you to eat that? When will you get paid, COD or will you have to wait? Figure out how much time the whole job will really take, figure out how much you want to make a year, and do the math. Then ad 15-20% for return on investment and retirement savings.

Thanks to all for the input, links, and advice. Bottom line- what ever you think it should be...double it.

FIRST question I ask is, "What's your budget"? This gives me a clue as to whether I want to even bother with the job in the first place. ;)
I'd charge a day rate, which encourages them provide a shot list & to schedule properly. "Oh, you forgot a shot & we can't take it 'till 4AM next week? I'd be willing to charge you my half-day rate!".
Then there's price per print (discourages ordering one of everything), price per use, expenses,...

I suggest that you light for the widest angle & move in for the closer shots. And...
