Sun+White Buildings = ND recommended?

What do you all think?

And which level of ND filter?

You probably won't need one unless you happen to want to use a very slow shutter speed to blur subject motion, while at the same time using a wide aperture to minimise depth of field.

Normal rules apply - adjust aperture, shutter speed, and ISO in whatever combination suits the circumstances.

Unless, of course, you plan to emulate Icarus or Daedelus that is.

A CPL may be a handy adjunct however, in which case the one to get is in general the most expensive you can afford.
It'll give you creative options in its own right, but makes a handy 1-2 stop ND in a pinch.

Thanks.

I alread have a high-end B+W CPL. Paid a good $100 or so for it a few years ago.

Just wondering if I should add a ND.

You could get away without an ND if you stop down to smaller apertures, but you will certainly need one if you plan on shooting at anything much wider than 2.8, even if you go to low (50) ISO.

So for the price it's a good idea to have one in the bag .. an ND4 is two stops and should be enough, I find that with the higher densities such as ND8 (four stops) you encounter AF difficulties. Hoya or B+W are good brands.

This is the one I am considering. (external link)

Yep .. that's the one I use, you can get them from MaxSaver (ebay) for $38.00 US free shipping but it has been taking two or three weeks on shipping.

recommend getting a B&W Kaisemen CPL. Then get a linear polarizer to screw onto the front of the CLP. The two polarizers in series equals a varible ND.

So you end up with a nice CPL....and for every little extra money...it becomes a VND by adding the second polarizer (linear, not circular)

The white walls should not affect exposure much if at all - remember you want the exposure to register them white, not 18% grey.

I went to Greece last winter. AMAZINGLY beautiful place.
If you have a chance to go to Nafplio, I completely recommend it.

Anyways.. instead of an ND filter, I'd always try to keep the sun behind me and shoot at the most ideal times.

Have fun and I'll be looking out for you photos when you get back!
