I am looking at some hard cases to store my macro equipment (camera, flashes, lenses, etc) and I was wondering if there are any problems with condensation when you leave the equipment in such cases.

The closed hard case will be left mostly in an apartment, but will be moved also outside, in car, etc.. I was also wondering if there is any special handling and maintenance I should be aware.

I am looking at some Pelikan and Pelican-Hardigg cases.

Thanks for any info.

Well, if you move the case from a colder to a warmer and more humid area, you should only get condensation on the outside of the case, unless you open it in the warmer area before the contents have reached (close to) ambient temperature. But if you close the cases up (since those are essentially air-tight) while out in the hot and humid conditions, you'll trap that moist air in the case, which isn't terribly good for your equipment (may encourage mold or fungus growth). So if you do use the stuff outside, open the case up once you're back in the air-conditioned building so the moisture can evaporate or otherwise dissipate.

You described very well the use of my equipment.
After following your advise, do you think I should also use some dehydrant product in the cases.
Thanks.

If you're going to get a dessicant to keep in the case, you'll need to regularly (and fairly frequently) recharge it. And one or two little "sugar packets" aren't going to do the job either. If possible, I'd suggest leaving the case open for an extended period of time indoors in an air-conditioned room. Alternatively, use a bag that allows your gear to breathe. I keep mine in Domke bags, which are canvas, so the moisture isn't trapped inside. Coated nylon bags with zippers would be slightly better than a Pelican case, but only slightly so, unless you left the lid open.
