Howdy all,
I 've got a question. I've been noticing lately that sometimes when i hit the play or review button after taking a picture that nothing happens and the camera just sits there...almost in a locked up mode...sometimes it recovers on its own and sometimes i have to shut it off to recover. Im using Sandisk Extreme IV UDMA cards and always format the card prior to writing data to it. Has anyone else noticed anything similar to this? Thanks!

Sounds strange. I have not noticed that either.

That's probably best. BTW, does it happen with any card or just this one?

I get this too. I haven't figured out what causes it yet. When this happens I just push the menu button and exit out.

I'll keep that in mind...i also noticed that when this happens if your looking into the viewfinder the internal area of the viewfinder gets a little darker and you can hear something moving internal to the camera. I just updated from 2.04 to 2.07 so i'll see if that helps...i also disconnected my battery grip, cleaned the contacts and reassembled. Keeping my fingers crossed....

Try it without the battery grip and see if that improves things. Battery grips have on occasion been known to cause nasty problems.

Happens to me, too, sometimes. Kind of annoying, but I just go to the menu or do something else and then hit play again and it works fine. I seriously wonder if cameras are just getting too complicated for their own good. Like too much data being processed and the hardware hangs or something.

I think that's what happening. I'm chimping faster than what the camera can process.

What firmware version are you using? I had something similar happening when I had my 5DMk2.

It happened when you held the camera and you were unknowingly touching the aperture stop down button, there was a firmware update to address this and it was never a problem after that!

Canon EOS 5DMkII, Canon EOS 10D, Canon EF17-40L, Canon EF24L TS-E MkII, Canon 24-105L IS, Canon 70-200L f4 IS, Canon EF 1.4x Extender MkII. I just upgraded from 2.04 to 2.07. I will test it over the next few days and see if it gets any better.

I've noticed the same thing on mine with v2.04 from time to time. 99% sure it's some sort of firmware hiccup, so not too worried about it.

Intersting. I think that dof preview button has caused me tons of trouble before. This is kind of embarrassing, but I somewhat recently acquired the 5D2. I got to the third copy of the 5D2 before I just accepted that it was part of the camera. Pretty much statistically impossible that I got 3 bum copies in a row. The problem was that the camera would lose the ability to AF intermittently. I would move the camera, reposition the lens in the mount-whatever-and it would come back. Later, I read something someone said in a forum about the dof preview button and a light went on. I'm pretty sure it was the cause of this problem, as well. Maybe I'm just clumsy, but that little button is sure easy for me to hit unknowingly...
