Found this thread after a search and wondered if any others are still having this problem or have had it resolved? I too bought a 5D MKII last week and have had this issue several times since.

I am on firmware 2.0.9

I have this issue too. Awaiting further responses in this thread, then I may consider sending it in.

Bloody annoying isn't it. I've even had it where it wouldn't let me change the aperture or shutter speed for a few seconds, just a blinking -2ev in the meter. I may have to take it back if the firmware upgrade doesn't resolve it.

I've had a look and can find nothing at all relating to 2.10. Even the Canon website doesn't list it:

Now I have re-read this thread I notice there is something I missed before.

I have worked out the cause of this issue and it's not until you are holding your camera that you will believe me. The cause is the DOF Preview button. For some reason this button is a really soft touch, so much so that I don't realise my middle finger is pressing against it. This stops the camera being able to enter playback mode or even auto focus.

The post above referring to the camera not focusing and the screen going dark and buzzing. This is the same thing.

Bad design me thinks as this never happened on the 7D. Wish there was a way to disable this useless feature.
