clubnight promoters over here are really tight.

and if there's competition from other photographers you need to make sure your price is similar/cheaper than theres. otherwise you dont get work.

the going rate around here is £40 ($60) for 2 hours.

and thats the good ones.

if you ask for any more you dont last long. which sucks because promoters don't appreciate what they are getting, all they care about is how much they have to spend.

I make $100-$300 for a night, dependent on the size of the show. 50-100 final processed photos. I also shoot 2-3 shows a week and have a consistent role with the promo company I work with. Obviously it's lead me to bigger promo shoots for press kits for producers/dj's. I pretty much have 2 full time jobs at this point. hah

What's your usual set up stichy? (Lens, flash, body)

Thanks

It's all there in his signature under his posts. If you have signatures turned off you won't be able to see this, of course.

Hey guys,
I've been looking through the thread but couldn't find the answer to my questions. I'm going to be shooting my first DJ set coming up in the next few weeks and had a few things to ask. I will be using my T1i with the kit 18-55 and I guess I'll bring my 50 1.8 along as well (flash- 430ex II). I was just trying to get a range of settings in my head for when I'm in there. I've been shooting the 50 in low light and have gotten pretty good with it but the kit lens is harder for me. How are you guys getting clear shots with the longer exposures? Are you just really good at holding your hands still? Any suggestions for shutter speed, f stops, and ISO would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

^I have exactly the same questions except I'm using the t2i.
Any lenses I should particularly bring along besides the 18-55 and 50mm? (I would be renting)
I also understand that it would be wise to invest in a flash, which one will give me the biggest bang for my buck? I'm a student and budget is key.

I always shoot ISO 1000, f/6.3, shutter speed ranging from 1 sec to 1/10 of a second. Flash on ettl

antonyfortuna & harshpatel - I think this has been mentioned in the thread already but the flash will freeze your subject allowing you to drag your shutter without bluring them. If your hands are unsteady youll get small light trails.

harshpatel - the 430ex ii is a really nice well built flash but I hear good things about the Youngnuo flash guns on ebay. I don't know anybody that's used one in a club but I just ordered one to have a play with. Only some of the YN flashes have ettl, make sure your flash has ettl if you get one.

I moved away from Tv and shoot manual with TTL on the flash because I dislike the camera setting my shutter speed or aperture. What happens when you're faced with a large/deep group and the camera decides f/4? You get those horrible, soft, out of focus eyes.

For non flash shots I use the infra-red focus beam on the speed light. Some DJs jump about quite a bit so expect many bad shots. Sort the wheat from the chaff.

A dance recital at Traders Alley in lakeland, FL. 60D, 50mm f/1.4, I used no flash the whole night as there were some complaints about flash photography at the last couple of performances.

This one was shot while I was also recording video.

Guys, I need your help. I'm not really up to speed on dance music these days so I would appreciate it if someone could provide track IDs in a photography related video. They play at 0:59 and 2:01 respectively:

Just so my post isn't completely off topic...

two questions fellas. Does anybody use facebook/myspace/twitter to advertise to promoters they want to work with? And also does anybody have experience with clubplanet.com?
