1) more flash to properly expose the subjects
2) get your flash out of the hotshoe,the cheapest way is a cable. You can also use an ST-E2 or a two flash master/slave setup.

Would you recommend a bracket?

Also, does the cable provide an extra level of security in terms of dropping the flash if it were wireless like with the ST-E2?

brakets are bulky

If you don't want to drop your flash use a braket (bulky and expensive for a good one), find some sort of lanyard type thing or ducktape the flash to your hand.

You are almost spot on! But I think it was around f5.6.

@TechnoKelvin - I bought a CustomBrackets Digital-T (I believe that's the one I have). Bulky, yes, and redistributes the weight over a greater area. Makes it difficult to walk through crowds and I got weird looks from people, but what I do like are the results. I feel that it gives the photos a more dynamic feel and when I speed up the shutter, gives me a spotlight effect that I like to isolate my subject. On a few over-head held shots, it provided a little extra stabliity and reach for my flash than off of the hot shoe.

Sleazy - What do you consider expensive? What brand is good?

Had a pretty busy few weeks. Had the pleasure of shooting Datsik on Saturday night, one helluva party!

Heh, funny. I was just in Calgary. Snow and all. I'll toss a few images up in a bit. I'm on VIA right now and editing club photos with older folk around wouldn't be appropriate.
