Cabinajm - for your shots that need some more flash try dialling in some positive flash exposure compensation. For ambient your only choices are shutter speed, aperture and/or ISO.

positive flash exposure comp on camera, right? not increase the power settings on the flash itself. Should I not use a stofen multi-directional bounce and angle the flash? Should I point it directly bare head at the subject? I'll try some things this weekend. I try to drop my f-stop to the lowest it can go, usually 3.5 or 4.5, for individuals up-close, but for group shots I need to use at least 8 to make sure the subjects aren't blurry. Anyone else experience an issue with the low DOF of the 10-22? Thanks.

Right hopefully adding a Ringflash to my Ranger fleet (proper ringflash not a bolt onto flashgun one).

Just for a laugh im tempted to put the ranger in a backpack and shoot an event, purely for my own amusment and to see the results.

Adsayer (some of you may remember him in this thread) and I were chatting and he said someone off here ages ago used to and it was interesting.

Soooooooo. Id like to try and dig for results :D

I remember seeing his stuff on here a few years back, that was some good stuff. Actually I think it was his style that I started pulling off at my universities nightclub over last year when i walked in and said "Lets try doing this to boost popularity etc" they listened and funnily enough, it actually worked! Then this academic year they refused to pay for it so I walked and they have the bar staff doing it with totally crap pictures..... and it's dived once again..... no surprise there.

Hey All,

You've posted some really great nightclub photos and this is something I would like to get into once I have gotten through learning my camera (Canon Rebel T1i). I have a few question for those interested to share, the nightclubs lighting conditions are very dynamic with and without strobes and ambient lighting, what have you found to your sweet spots for shooting in terms of your settings at times?

What has been your own personal favorite lens for shooting nightclub photos in tight spaces?

What if your fave process for working the crowd in your favor?

Have some fun with your answers.

What's in my camera bag

Srika - I see you had alot of Pink LED lights there. I feckin hate that, seems to be the worst on skin tones and I just dont like the way it looks so feel for you there.

Dale - 1.6 crop I really rated the siggy 10-20mm and would still use one if I didnt use a couple of 1.3 crop bodies. Getting the crowd in my favour, just ask them if you want them to dance etc instead of keeping crappy poses, or for say a hands in the air crowd shot wait till a tune hits the right moment camera goes up get some attnetion and I get what i need.

Is a f/2.8 or lower glass needed for club pictures of people posing if you use flash?

Does it work that the flash will freeze and expose your posing subjects and the f/2.8 or lower glass is fast enough to capture the ambiance?

I see a lot of sigs in this thread that has f/2.8 lenses in them but I thought fast glass wasn't needed if you use flash? Are you only using the f/2.8 glass for crowd shots where you aren't using flash?

The faster the better, and yes, 2.8 will capture more of the ambiance when you use flash. Now, here's the kicker, your depth of field is very shallow, so for groups, they kind of all have to be in a line, otherwise some of the people could be out of focus.

Solution, line 'em up, or don't shoot big groups.

OK not 'live' shots. But did a few promo pics just before a venue opened on sat night. Literally a 10min to unload and set my lights up and then probably something silly about the same shooting...

Then did the event pics after...

I remember adsayer, we were on the original thread. The guy in question, if remember right is JBAZ, and he used his "ghostbuster rig" (I believe that's what he called it).
