Pink and/or red are friggin' horrible to shoot with. It's normal for clubs around here to have some sort of red lighting for the DJ's constantly on, it's a pain :(

Both are the worst. I find old type Parcans better than the LEDs though. LEDs cause me huge issues from time to time when the beam is very narrow and uneven..

Give me a blue wash anyday :D

Chunky, since you asked for CC I will provide some:

Focus and recompose is the order of the day. The first shot would've been better if you didn't allow the selected autofocus point to dictate your framing. Press the shutter in half way until you hear a bleep. With focus locked, move the camera to frame the object of your desired focus.

#4: Same as above.

#6: Focus was locked in on the guy behind the couple, causing them to be out of focus. Look at how their eyes appear soft in this.

#8: This kind of picture never makes it home with me on the memory card. You usually get awkward arrangements like this when someone doesn't want to comply with your instructions. When photographing drunken people, you will often encounter huge egos - people who feel like you are taking their power away from them when you ask them to stand in such a way as to create a half-decent composition. I had one of these on Saturday and deleted the picture; not out of spite, but because it was chaff.

My final suggestion would be to get a bounce card or a Stofen. You can DIY these yourself if you want to save money on what is essentially glorified cardboard cut outs and plastic.

Oh, and never waste your money on Gary Fong products. There are various videos on YouTube where he attempts to (and rather convincingly) fool his audience into believing that his products allow you to gather more light - but not before he uses the old conjurer's trick of sabotaging his non-Fong accessoried shots.

I'll take some CC on the above 3 shots if you care to :)

word, would be a great shot of the fine examples that frequent the club without those twits in the background pulling faces and hands signs...

Can anyone recommend a camera gear bag that can be used to hold / hide your gear on the way to the club but once there be small / flat enough to not get in the way of you maneuvering your way through crowds?

I look at gear lists but don't normally see bags.

Well your bag can only go as flat as the gear you have in it.

I love my Crumper 7MDH for quick shoots, fits all I ever need and more, otherwise I have my Thinktalk StreetWalker HD!

Well I'd only take the gear I need so it would be assembled and around my neck so the bag would be empty.

Thing is I don't feel safe walking from my car to the club on the streets of Miami with my camera fully put together. :p

The bag would mainly be used to hide my gear.

Spend 20 dollars and valet your car, you get out right in front of the club and usually the bouncers. No bag no worries.

Haha, that's funny. Miami's streets aren't that bad. Just keep your head on straight and you'll do fine. That being said, yeah, hide your kit once leaving the venue.

Bag? I use various bags. I have a large back for touring and a small discrete bag for local stuff.

thank you for point it out! been wonder why some pics came out good while others did not. would shooting in manual work better? usually i shoot 2-3 people, only 10% for group shots. would manual focus keep everyone in 1 roll focus?

#6: Focus was locked in on the guy behind the couple, causing them to be out of focus. Look at how their eyes appear soft in this.

ya i see it now after look photo on larger size

ill have to flip through the whole thread get some more ideas, yes it was a wild party, everyone just want to jump in the pics lol

i actually made one out of foam paper thing, but i believe the ceiling was too low and flash was too bright. need more practice with it

actually almost ordered one lol, i guess ill stick with my foam card, it works for being free!

As for bags, I've been rocking a Crumpler 7MDH for over a year now, shootin crammed 1500 person events to a few hundred in a small pub and haven't had any issues. It has enough room to carry 2-3 lenses, my flash as well as business cards, AA's, memory cards and my ear plugs with tons of room left. It was a really good investment. For festivals, multi day events and going on tour with artists, I've picked up a kata 3n1.

I take my Tamrac Adventure Pack 6 with me to the club.. I also have a place to lock it up so it makes it easier to take additional equipment with me. For home storage and photoshoots I have a Lowepro Pro Runner 350 AW. I'm thinking about getting a pouch or small shoulder bag on nights where I don't feel like carrying the Tamrac with me.
