It's cool to see the different scenes across the world you guys are capturing.

I've been shooting more and more events lately.

Here are a few shots from past week or so. Pictures link back to pull post.

PROPS!

Can anyone help with post processing? From what I've read it seems like a chef's secret recipe ie. you're never going to know the ingredients.

I bought the latest Lightroom and have been playing around with the settings but I seriously suck at it.

If photographers don't share this information, can presets for nightclub photography be bought somewhere?

I see "Ultimate Nightclub Photography Guide" has 27 presets you can buy. Has anyone bought this before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Btw I took pics at Cosmic Gate, Steve Aoki and Avicii this weekend. Pics coming soon. :-))

technokelvin - what do you want your shots to look like? my editing process is fill light and blacks or just curves but if you don't want your shots to look like mine then thats not much use to you.

Is that the type of PP you used to get results like this?

Also do you do PP on a per picture basis or can you create a general preset to adjust fill light and blacks / or curves?

Thanks.

yes it is, though I think that around that time I was knocking the clarity down to -10 and increasing the vibrance to +10 (off the top of my head).

my people shots are pretty consistent so I just hit them all with the same preset, tweak the odd one and export.

Now that I'm on my computer rather than my phone...

Seb - Nice work dude, I like the fact you're not just pulling out the same fisheye shots as everybody else.

Spikey - EDC must have been fun, Skrillex seems to be getting more popular by the minute right now. The last shot is really cool, like mist is rolling across the crowd.

Props - I like your style, nice and intimate.

Hey srika, your domain is down?

Oh and while I'm here, there's one thing I've noticed as of late, and that's a few shooters out there getting into places having no more than a well-trafficked Facebook page. Sucks, because we here go through the trouble of getting our own domains, setting up our own sites, fretting about with the gallery software, and so forth...

What say you all?

I think you should embrace the way the social media is evolving, you don't have to directly do so by creating a said facebook page... for example using websites like 500px.com allows you to link and communicate your work to your current facebook/twitter followers through social network badges. (http://500px.com/DomGoldsworthy (external link))

However having said that, having a proper online portfolio with your own domain is certainly a more professional approach. You can easily obtain a facebook page to promote your current website, they can not as easily obtain a website to promote their facebook page...

Big name brands/companies/design firms all connect to a broader range of people by connection through social media

Oh by all means embrace whatever it takes to get your brand out there. My sites have a social media component.

What I'm getting at is I see a few guys out there these days, who only have an FB page for their stuff. If anything, I'd shoot it down on the fact that FB crunches your photos up horribly. But yet, some places let these guys in, and if you ask them, "why don't you have a real site?", they either think FB is good enough, or act as if putting up their own site is difficult.

Well, it is, to do it to the max, but you can rig a basic Tumblr account up with a gallery layout in about a half hour. And just have your domain redirect in about two minutes.

looking to upgrade lenses on a crop body. What would be best option?
11-16tokina|16-35canon i know the price point on both is like night and day but im just looking to see if the 16-35 2.8 is really worth that kind of money to be doing nightclub photos, and also how the 11-16tokina performs on a crop body.. Thanks in advance

I suppose it comes down to the technology being readily available to a much wider market these days... all my venues have some twit with a bottom end SLR drop in now and then working for peanuts or free entry undermining me. drives me up the wall, and you're correct, all they have is facebook page to thrash around.

I only reason I haven't set up my own domain is cause I haven't come across the need to, word of mouth has worked just fine in my "small city" (Melbourne) but I can appreciate sites like 500px with great viewing quality! haha sounds like I'm plugging them hard...

I say spend the money once and spend it right... save that little extra to get the 16-35mm 2.8, 11-16 is far too wide for patron photography, great for festivals/djs though. my 16-35 is my workhorse even after snapping the barrell twice from being drunk :( she battles on. you're other option is a 24-70mm 2.8, I personally don't have one but a few mates do and the DOF is nicer, fast, and a little zoom when you need that Dj from amongst the crowd! :D
