Btw - does anyone use a flash battery pack such as the Canon CP-E4 in clubs?? I am considering buying one for the recycle time and extended battery life... but worried it'll be a headache to carry on my person.

That was my other concern... haha. lithium suck imo, they overheat and can't outlast good rechargeables - I use inca 2700's. not to mention the $$ to buy 4 packets a week! I always have spares but it's more the recharge time I'm wanting...

is there any slim option that can attach to the cam or flash unit then?

Lithiums are great... but terrible for a flash. They overheat because of rapid discharge, which happens with flashes. Eneloops are a much safer decision.

I too agree with the Eneloops. I purchased the starter kit and one set of (4) AA batteries lasted at least 600 pictures before needing to be replaced. I didn't see long recycle times until the last 50 or so pictures. Then again, they were fresh out of the package without a recharge cycle at that point, so I had to run them down all the way. The only problem is the 10-hour recharge time. If you don't need them immediately then you'll be fine. Get the starter kit, it comes with 8-AA batteries and two AAA batteries, plus the cells for C and D.

Also, I think the 11-16 is too short a range to actually give you anything. Go with a 10-22 at least if you want to get some good crowd shots and some portrait. You'll have to go to 22 if you want to reduce the amount of distortion, because you'll get a lot of warped limbs if you use the lower end of the zoom. I ended up getting the Tamron 17-50 2.8. I basically stopped using my 10-22 and am using the 17-50 exclusively, one because replacement cost is a lot cheaper should I break it, and two, it's a faster and sharper lens.

I went the opposite. From Tamron 17-50 to Canon 10-22. But this depends what kind of shots you do.
But I'll never consider the 17-50 to be faster than a 10-22...

How so? The apeture is 2.8 on the 17-50 and 3.5-4.5 on the 10-22. I can do low-light hand held and get decent results with the 17-50 vice the 10-22. If your'e using a flash it really doesn't matter though, it's a wash, but I do get better backgroudn blur with the 17--50 because of the extra stops.

I won't argue the sharpness of the 10-22 because it's a pretty darn sharp lens too.

By saying 'faster', I was talking about the Focus Speed.
I use flash. And with either lens my favorite aperture is f/4.0 for the best DOF.

thats good to hear, i been trying to figure out what f stop were reasonable. sometimes 2.8 is too shadow for some pics. thanks!

also do you guys shoot with ettl or manual power? ettl is when i shoot spare room in the club (ceiling i can bounce off)

but when im in the dance floor, there is no wall or ceiling to bounce off, i have omni bounce on my 430ex tile 45 degrees. sometimes i use my ettl cord but that gets tiring after 10-20 pics.

whats flash setting do you use?

ETTL all the way.
90 degrees (up) with white ceiling.
When ceiling is black, 0 degrees (strait).
