ETTL, 45* with a stofen diffuser.

Ah, yeah, the Tamron hunts a little, not as much as the canon 18-55 kit lens though. The 10-22 is faster in focusing though, you're right. f/4-5.6 is probably the best for single or two person shots, I go to f/8-11 if I shoot a group with multiple levels of people. I also always try to get two shots at lease with different shutter speeds and apeture to make sure that I get "the shot".

I also take two pictures, not to get different apertures, but to catch everyone with their eyes open!

interesting, never tried straight on flash, wouldnt it be too bright with just omni bounce? i guess if i step up to 4.0 to 5.6 it would shaper and better for straight flash than 2.8?

Why point your flash up, when is nothing there to reflect the light?
Straight flash won't "burn the pictures"! TTL is there for the correct measure of light.

thats good to hear, i been trying to figure out what f stop were reasonable. sometimes 2.8 is too shadow for some pics. thanks!

also do you guys shoot with ettl or manual power? ettl is when i shoot spare room in the club (ceiling i can bounce off)

but when im in the dance floor, there is no wall or ceiling to bounce off, i have omni bounce on my 430ex tile 45 degrees. sometimes i use my ettl cord but that gets tiring after 10-20 pics.

whats flash setting do you use?

Some people swear by manual, others go ETTL. It's really personal preference and how much you want to deal with to take the shot.

Personally, I do ETTL since I shoot with the flash off-camera 99.999 percent of the time. I attached it once last year just to see.

Did you take these with the 8mm?? Isn't that a manual focus lens? Or was there another lens used?

Yep those were with the 8mm. Manual focus only, it has no electronics whatsoever so at first it's a bit tricky to work with, but you get used to it :)

Rad! I've had that lens on my Amazon wish list for ages, but haven't yet pulled the trigger. Those pics might make me do it. Can't believe how sharp they are. What aperture do you generally shoot these at?

Usually around 4 or 5.6; you've got no depth perception when you focus so a wider DOF is advisable.
