those look great! you can set your 430ex to 2nd curtain sync to get some pretty sweet lightning trail and effects with even slower shutter speed!

Hey everyone!
First post here.. i'm normally a videography but i got a photo gig and a new flash. This was the first time for both. let me know what you think and what i can do to improve the look of my photos. I have a Nissin Di622 flash.. i had it on manual most of the night.. Should i keep it on E-TTL as i notice that some of my pictures with groups against the backdrop weren't as bright
This was a t2i with a stock lens.

I don't even care about Harry Potter, but why does Hermione have to be so hot? Seriously...

Anyone here use the Gary Fong Lightsphere while shooting in the club and if so are you shooting ETTL or Manual?

My personal opinion is that the Fong is too much for nightclub work. Some people swear by it, but I don't need my flash that evenly distributed in a nightclub. There's plenty of intelligent lights in the venue to supply the fill.

I think the Fong makes you look amateur. Just an amateur's opinion. :P

In nightlife you won't see the difference if you use first or second curtain flash. It's also a misunderstanding that you can use longer shutter speeds with second curtain. Imo it's better to use first sync flash so you can time the moment you want to capture and not half a second later.

[rant]I swear there is only one good lighting tech in Leeds! Stobes set to 15hz going off in short bursts that aren't timed to the music or in any pattern at all - what am I supposed to do with that? even upping the ISO so that I could get away with a shorted shutter speed had me loosing every other shot! The only time I could garentee the stobe wouldn't go off is when the crowd have their hands in the air, the beat kicks in and everybody goes mental (yeah, that's right - the one time you want the storbe to be going off!).

In 4 hours I took 350 photos and I'm struggling to get the 100 shots that the promoter paid me for! ther are like 5 dodgy crowd shots and thats it! I'm used to having a keeper rate close to 70% not less than 30%![/rant]

On the plus side the people were cool and the promoter fed me sambuca :) Also got to watch a girl drunkenly stumble into her mate headbutting her in the process, the two were so drunk they didn't even notice.... 5mins later I take their picture and she asks me to take it again because she looks to drunk! made me chuckle :)

Shea - I think I want to work at some of the clubs you do. Nice shots.

Westcoast - Try draging your shutter a little more, nothing wrong with an under exposed background but for my personal taste yours is a bit too under exposed.
