In nightlife you won't see the difference if you use first or second curtain flash. It's also a misunderstanding that you can use longer shutter speeds with second curtain. Imo it's better to use first sync flash so you can time the moment you want to capture and not half a second later.

Stobes set to 15hz going off in short bursts that aren't timed to the music or in any pattern at all - what am I supposed to do with that? even upping the ISO so that I could get away with a shorted shutter speed had me loosing every other shot! The only time I could garentee the stobe wouldn't go off is when the crowd have their hands in the air, the beat kicks in and everybody goes mental (yeah, that's right - the one time you want the storbe to be going off!).
