man, I snapped the barrel of my canon 10-22 last night. I was attempting to hang my flash on a beam and my camera which was slung over my shoulder with a black rapid strap swung down and hit a pole. the barrel of the lens snapped and the AF motor is not working.... fml.... time to send it in for repair, hopefully it doesn't **** up the optics.

Anyone shoot with a fisheye on a full framer? does it get way too distorted for club portraits?

I occasionally shoot with 12-24mm on full frame.

12mm gets way too distorted for doing any portraits.. you also need to get real close... which can be pretty uncomfortable for the subject because they think you're zooming right in basically.

great for crowd shots though, and creative DJ shots

^ Wow.

Had a ton of practice with OCF tonight at home before I went to the club - thought I had it nailed, then when I got in there just fell to bits and finished up reverting to my usual way. Again, every shot was just totally unpredictable - whether it be ETTL or manual settings as Jason suggested. Worked perfectly at home with every shot being really nicely exposed (ETTL + manual) with lovely colour, but in the club shots were just randomly under/over exposed each time. I put a 1/4 CTO warming gel on too but this gave the subjects a really unnatural orange tint! (But again, when used at home was fine. Hmmm.) I will nail this one day. Do you reckon it has anything to do with me using the 60D's built in wireless transmitter? Or is my metering going wrong somewhere when using ETTL? I need to get more practise, but always feel the pressure to revert when 2 consecutive shots are fudged up and people are asking to see their photos!

"Uhhhmmmm, wait, just one more..." - Nothing worse!

Also, seriously thinking about selling the Tamron 10-24mm and buying the 17-50mm 2.8 instead. What do you reckon?

Hey dude,
I have no experience with the 60D wireless off but just as a random bit of advice I would say use an ettl cord. If for anything just incase you drop the flash, the wire has saved my flash a few times.

Remember you can adjust the FEC on the fly using the top Screen so if it's underexposed just quickly pump it up.

Also are you shooting bare bulb? If so make sure your flash zoom isn't up as this will narrow where it lands and if you are shooting bare then open your wide panel as it makes aiming the flash on your subjects easier.

Just keep trying :)

Cheers for the tip, Aidan. Never thought about that tbh. I'm clumsy as it is - and the clubs are always rammed. Only problem is focusing issues... I need to get another flash on the camera for the IR beam! Think I'm gona sell the 430EX II next week anyway and spend the money on a couple Yongnuos.

I was shooting with the stofen angled at 45 degrees, and holding it out to the left (pretty much in line with where it would be on camera)

Haven't posted pics in a while, here's a few from last week:

The night was dead and smoke ridiculously thick. Made it a nightmare for both shooting and editing!

Do not replace your 430 with a yongnuo, the focal assist is inadequate. If you just want a cheap flash then they're excellent, I use one with yongnuo wireless triggers to backlight my DJ shots.
