night club photos (NWS) (2)

I dont want to sound like a dick, but I would reccomend the reading of both this and the first (https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthre​ad.php?t=415099) thread.

There is a lot of advice, talk about pay, kit used and examples with people getting critique and improvements. Also advice on ways to achieve a particular style.

You question is answered in the threads, by many people. But I think you would also find the other pieces of information helpful in the long run (as I am).

I'm also new here - first post after reading through the majority of the pages in this thread (and a lot of the old thread).

I've been looking at the idea of getting some work locally and I've noticed the same thing - the images for the clubs in my city are terrible! Now I'd be a complete beginner and I can't say I'd be any better, but I certainly can't be any worse.

If it's not against any rules in this forum, I'd be interested to see the comparison shots!

I think it's actually ok for you to think your photos are better than others. A lot of club photographers where I'm from aren't actual photographers, they just have a dslr and take pictures, leave it on auto and use the pop up flash. The pictures are awful, but it brings people to Facebook so they can tag themselves.

Stick some of your photos up an get some feedback on them!

Just send out a load of email to the clubs, and see if any would like a photographer. But if ya don't have any experience in shooting in clubs, it's not just as easy as ya might think! Takes a good bit of experience to get to the level of some of the guys on this. Just make sure ya take plenty of tips from here and you'll be sorted!

hmm.. how come I can only post 2 at a time?
anyway..I like to take shots like these more than just the typical kind of group shots, but these only make up a small part of the album.

I've only shot 2 weekends (4 days) so far and these 2 are my favorite for what I have processed so far, im working on the rest right now so I'll post them as soon as I'm done.
in the meantime if you guys could give me some feedback it will be really appreciated!!

I get £40 per event. It's a good job I enjoy what I do...

For some reason promoters just do not understand the value of good quality photography and the effort that goes into it. I can't get any more than £40 for a nights work with the promoters here - and these are nationwide promotions companies that have sellout events every single week.

I'd be interested to hear how much either people get per event?!

I get $100 AUD per night which is 3 hours work, not including post processing. (I do it anyway)
the thing is the current (main) photographer shoots 3 hours and does NO pp, I really dont understand why they dont get rid of him. he just doesnt know what hes doing....
shoud I bring this up next time I see my manager? give them a comparison?

NYE should be good though, I'm pretty sure they said they would pay double

It averages £40 per event in Glasgow. iamvip have moved in which has pushed some prices down to around £30.

I'm lucky in that the club I'm in pays £40 p/h

Clubs don't care too much about quality, but if you can deliver images quickly, always turn up on time and have good banter you can normally get away with asking for more money.

About gettin paid- It depends who I'm working for, if its either of the clubs I work for i charge £50 per night, or if its the magazine i do some bar/club work for then I get £25 per hour. I've no idea what other photographers charge in belfast tho, but the clubs seem to be happy enough paying that.

$AU60 an hour with around 30-40 shots. Instead of trying to cover 1 single event per night find venues that are after a small web presence and jump from smaller clubs/pubs/hotels. Last week I covered a 6 hour event with 200 pictures for $150, but it was so packed it was easy to get the pics in less time, which let me pop out and shoot for a few surrounding pubs/bars. I only found myself coming back to take shots of the DJ's which changed every hour

When I first started shooting nightclubs, I was getting $25 a night and that was with me shooting with a Sony point and shoot in a small club/pub and no post processing. I was not working for the club but for the DJs themselves, so early on, I became the personal photographer for a few DJs in town and with time, my pricing went up.

As far as getting paid in GENERAL, it all depends on so much. The city, the club, the DJ, promoter etc. As your experience grows, you will start to see that you will have to increase your pricing to cover for your time, gas, post processing (if you use any) and better gear. I had to get with it and ditch the point and shoot, get an DSLR, flash and all of that.

I also did a wedding once and I made a few hundred dollars from it. I shot a female model and I made some more money there too.
