Yes he played in Niagra Falls, Not for NYE. Was pi$$ed I missed the show!

MojeIme: Why in gods name, do you need a 1D for nightclub photography? Isn't that a bit overkill?

I dont know but maybe if he has it for his other work and it is insured..why not? If it gets good results and is covered against 1st/3rd party damage I think you should go for it.

I knew a guy who shot 1D at the club in 2000-2002. Rukes, who I would say is the most successful nightclub photographer out there (by a FAR distance), has been shooting 1D's since around 2005 or 2006. Just because you personally don't find it to be "needed" doesn't mean it's not "needed". "Need" is relative.

I started off shooting with my XT, moved to a 60D and am now shooting with my 5D2. It's all in the "need" like Srika said. If it gets you the shots that you want, use it!

When I started I had acces to a 600D (Rebel T3i) that my than employer (DJ) bough to use, but it just didn't have the right feel, focusing was problematic, didn't see anything in the viewfinder, didn't really fit in my hand... so I started using my own 20D which felt way better and produced better photos even thou it's old as dirt (the 1D mark II is even older).

Once I started getting more work I saw the need for a second body (for concerts and as backup). A used 1D mark II was to be had for the same kind of money as a 50D or 5Dc so it was a no-brainer. The viewfinder is bright with 100% coverage, it just feels more solid, fits in my hand perfectly, is weather sealed (not 100% with the lenses I use, but I still have less fear if somebody spills part of his beer in my direction), focuses so much better (especially for concerts in Ai-Servo), the dynamic range is great, 1.3 crop can be a superb thing... When you first use a 1 you don't notice everything, but when you pickup a XXD series after a while it seems as slow as a compact. Right now I don't see myself owning anything other than 1 series cameras from now on (1Ds mark II would be nice to have 0 ).

And as sad as it is, people do threat you differently if you have a 1 series (even if you could take the same picture with a 300D). Since most of us try to sell our selves having a biger boddy than the next guy is a big plus.
