you guys talking about using off camera flash in a nightclub? how do you do that? every time I go out, the photographer only has flash on the hot shoe on the camera.

i use a flash on my hotshoe, and its normally direct flash.

Shot Saturday at the Swimsuit Contest that I was covering.

I do use a mix of both. I find the off camera useful for smoked out place. Seems to kill the contrast less than on camera axis when not bouncing. If I am bouncing off a ceiling, I tend to either leave it on camera or have it in my hand anyway as I just find it easier than swiveling the flash. I can comfortably do my controls with one hand.

I love how all of your subjects are always looking so friendly and willing to pose for you. Do you ever encounter people who do not want to be photographed?

Just some shots from a 21st my mate and I did over the weekend, not really typical night club shots, but it was at a pretty classy venue.

Sick bunch of pics guys, very nice! I've been goofing around with some wireless triggers, until someone stole one of my 430EX's.. Nonetheless, had some fun.

First post so be gentle, been lurking for a while and thought I would get round to adding a few of my own.

Been shooting at this nightclub in Bath for most of this year. The promoter likes photos with lots of lighttrails which in a dingy, poorly lit, basement club can mean pushing the shutterspeed a long way, most of these are around a second. Hope to at some point shoot in some venues similar to the amazing ones I have seen here, but they are virtually non existent in Bath. Any thoughts or criticism very welcome.

not sure why you're singling me out, I see plenty of friendly looking people in others' photos as well!

and the answer is yes, there are many people who don't want photos. Especially at this one place I go, let's just say there are a lot of 'older' men there with 'younger' women... they almost never want photos... if you get my drift

Sounds like that works out to everyone's advantage then, as who the heck wants to take photos of older men when there are younger women to take photos of?

and in case it wasn't apparent, the reason they don't want photos is because they are cheating on someone and don't want evidence
