back on the weekly grind. I just got residency at WET nightclub, SJ for fridays & saturdays. getting tired already but here's some pix from my last week's set

I like doing nightlife photography, but here in Houston doesn't pay to well. There's always some amature who is willing to do it for free and knock me out of the scene.It seems like nobody here cares about the quality or how their party is captured; to me image is everything.

Thats total BS. At first i was wanting to do work for free to get my self out there and get practice, but i see what it does to people and for that reason ive never done free work. Everything I do now is either paid or personal. hopefully when I move back to atlanta ill be able to get on to some of the bigger or even smaller clubs if i have to. I love the club scene a little too much

Haha, yeah and the funny thing is, these "beginners" messaging for tips on how to get there pictures looking good. I simply direct them to this forum, but all too lazy to even read it themselves. It's all good though, most of my nightlife work I do are just for friends. i still have a great TIME!

yeah it happens to me a lot through the years. i shoot more in quality than quantity. and majority of the amatures shoot quantity so that leaves me nothing to shoot because they rather pay somebody that shoots the same shots over and over to make it seem a lot of images is captured at a slow party haha.

Hopefully tonignt is pretty good. Its supposed to be a back to school college party so we shall see. I only came away with 120 pictures last saturday when Im used to close to 200 and some times topping 300:/

dang all these pics make me want to go to a club tonight... but no one to go with.

oh well...

.....how do you guys manage to stay relevant doing club photography in your city??....here in NYC the competition is some dude with xti + 18-55mm + popup flash whos willing to shoot all night for 20$ and free drinks...i iused to do it alot and would get at least 30 an hour for 3 hours max, but now when i tell a promoter i charge at least 90$ they laugh...simply because some douche can practically do it for free as long as he gets free cover and drinks...its sad.

any other NYC photogs experience this before?

BTW here are a few shots i took last halloween, i think this was my last gig in the city...it just isnt worth the money.

happens to me ALL the time, I don't even really shoot for anyone anymore, I just take my camera when I go out with my friends just to capture some memories
