I just selected one of your shots to put in the quote. I wasn't specifying that one in particular. I've looked at all your shots and I'm asking more about lens / lighting / iso in general so that the pictures look light balanced.

Oh okay. Well that particular night I guess I just had it going on. Lol. I was shooting at either 400 or 800 iso, .4 sec and either 3.5 or 4.5 with my 10-22mm, and on camera 430exii. Ambient lighting changes from floor to floor in the bar and from night to night si the same settings don't always work. I also use second shutter sync and set the white balance to flash in camera. No exposure compensation was set. Hope that answers your question.

Interesting observations, pod_cannon, and food for thought.

High ISO settings are there for a reason. Night clubs are not the real world. They're a place where you can take greater liberties with framing and not worry about your horizon being level. The aesthetics are different. I think that encompasses high ISO shots as well.

That's how much noise you get at ISO400 with film? Damn, I had no idea digital was so noise free.

Compared to film, it's a dream. Even my old 10D ran circles around film in the noise department.

Now, while we're on the subject, the irony is, in the film world, "noise" is sometimes desired. Poke around and find some examples of images shot on Kodak T-MAX 3200. The grain is so obvious it hurts. But in some cases, it made the image what it was. The same image, pristine, at ISO 100 would not have the same impact. And I have yet to find a digital grain "filter" that matches the randomness of film grain or natural digital noise. Now, I'm not a fan of green gunk in my shadows, but I can live with luminance noise. In some cases, it adds to an image. It's as close as digital can get to a grain.

Night club photogs -- quick question for you guys. How often do you use (and trust) your in-camera histogram when shooting in the clubs? Just wondering if all the potentially funky lighting scenarios, plus dark areas, would throw the histogram off compared to the more 'traditional' people shooting scenarios. Thoughts/comments??? Thanks in advance for your input!

Chill - I don't use the histogram, I don't even know what would constitute a good or bad one. I just use the screen and look at the shot, if it looks good it stays, if it looks bad I work out what went wrong and fix it on the next shot.

Histo-what?

In all honesty I've never fired it up in a club. It's one of those things you often don't have time to worry about.
