Recently ordered my Canon EOS Rebel XS and am deciding what I should buy with it.
It comes with a carrying bag, memory card, and spare battery ...
But what else should I invest in?

Well, I would be taking shots that involve light-painting and long exposures, etc. And maybe some macro shots later on. a tripod. 40D, 15-85mm IS, 70-200mm f/4L IS, 50mm f/1.8II, 430exII, kenko 1.4tc

And also, what would I use to keep the shutter open for exposures longer than 30 seconds? Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

A remote shutter release would help too. For macro you really should look into picking a dedicated 1:1 macro lens like one of the Canons or Sigmas. [Gear List | Flickr
