So now that its been out for a few days ;-)a

Are you GH1/GF1 users making use of the GH1 Hack (external link) by tester13?

This changes a lot of things. Like video quality, workflow, etc. Is it true that the GF1 can now do 1080p?

It would be good to see some chatter here about user experiences. Chime in guys and gals.

Come on guys. This hack makes the GF1 do Full-HD and improves video noise problems like removing low light mudding.

Won't get too many replies in this topic. :) I was under the assumption that the new hacked 1080P on the GF1 was nothing but the 720 MJPEG on steroids. Oh well, I don't have one, so what do I know? I do have a hacked GH1 though.

I was having some problems trying to make the bitrate around 100MBps in MJPEG (lots of card and camera crashes, probably more card related, however), but now I've settled on 32MBps 1080/24p AVCHD. I've used the settings for more than a week without any problems.

I did have it at 44MBps shooting AVCHD (which was stable also), but I figured it would probably be a whole lot wiser to have fully-stability with my cards and camera than have the best quality with a crash at the 40th minute or something (need to pick up Class 10s). I'm still waiting for all the dust to settle though. Once it does, then I'm sure we'll all know the optimal hack settings for both cameras. Besides, you can always reset it when things go sour.

I know there are other GH1/GF1 users here. There has been no camera hack quite like this. This hack removes built in software limitations.

Most people have been using class 4 or 6. Few have used class 10. So ranges over 32Mbps should be more attainable.

I'm wondering is this is a game changer for this camera. Does it now become the preferred indie and vacation camera?

Personally I was stunned that it worked on the GF1. Makes you wonder what test13 has been able to figure out from reverse engineering it.

Bump. GF1 can be updated to have full manual controls with videos now. With all the hacks for it, it's pretty amazing for what you get in a tiny package (720P AVCHD and MJPEG up to 100Mbps). I'm seriously considering a GF1 now if I'm willing to dump the swivel LCD, larger sensor, and 1080/24P of the GH1.

GH1's sell for a pretty high price. But a GF1 is much less expense, almost half the price, and it does full HD now. Although the GH1 has swivel LCD which some people have used as a unique monitor (external link).

Cheapest I've seen is $540 body-only on eBay from Australia. For the kit, the cheapest is Amazon, I think, at $1070. If you don't need the lens, it'll easily sell for $550-600. I low-balled and sold the 14-140 for $530 a couple weeks back.
