I'd rather see this photo in Print - as opposed to some of the garbage printed in newspapers and magazines. Also, remember that most of the equipment that they use is supplied to them by respective Press Agencies.

BTW: - awesome clarity! ;)

Headline: "... The irony, snappers being snapped..."
Article: "... Pap' complain of rights being infinged / opposed as passer-by captures precious 'revenge' shot....."

"... with a clear perspective - the confusion is clearer ..."

I never pictured press photog's dressing so nicely, were they waiting to go into a press meeting or something? They seem a bit overdressed if they are just shooting the Queen on the street.

I'm envious for sure. Those guys are so serene with the knowledge that, if mugged, the fancy equipment is all insured by their employer.

Allso, remember that most of the equipment that they use is supplied to them by respective Press Agencies.

For some that is is probably the case. Many press agencies are also going the route of hiring more independent contractors as opposed to full time staff. As independent contractors, they probably own their own equipment as well as insure their own equipment.

I love the results these lenses give but it sure is a pain to use em.

Not to mention the mugme white bullseye they paint on your back.

I see these two comments a lot and I guess I just don't get it ? Regarding the first....attached a shot of a 92 pound girl who never complains about lugging this 12 pound rig around.....

....and to the second comment: I wonder how many folks on this forum have actually been mugged because of their camera gear ? Knock on wood....I've not yet been mugged, in over forty years while carrying various camera gear....and I've been in a few places that would probably be considered rather dicey.

I was walking by and noticed a bunch of white lens and photographers.

What would you expect working professionals to use?

Perhaps an XTi and a Kit Lens?

It's common practice to set lenses down on their hoods. I do it with my 300 and 500 all the time.

As for getting mugged... In broad daylight, surrounded by 15 other photographers, within the security perimeter covering a visit by The Queen?

Uh, yeah...

Getting mugged....That's kind of funny. A lot of people do not even know you are carrying a camera even if you have a 500L on. I shoot in my local park a lot, Brooklyn, NYC. I have people asking me what it is I am carrying? I told them is a camera. I was carrying my 1dmarkIII and a 500L.

Truth is, if photography is your business and thats how you make money......You could own all the cameras and lenses in that picture and its actually a very small investment for a "business".

Ive had hobbies that dwarf the cost of that equipment in a single year and Im not wealthy by any stretch.

They are working, or at least waiting to work, using the tools they require. I don't imagine anyone even gave a thought about your 5D and 24-105. The one on the left seems to be a friendly type.

Don't over glamorise the profession, its a job just like any other, with its good and bad sides.

True that!! You can't make the mistake of lookin' at them from the perspective of a hobbyist.

I was wondering the exact same thing. Glad you put it out there.

Looks like they are all packing 2x1D Series and huge white lens.

if you think those lenses are big...wait until you come up to a group using 500mm, and 600mm lenses...then you become really envious...:)

So true!! Anyone that's been seriously into automotive racing knows this or heck, I could sell just one of my custom bass guitars and buy a 5DII + 200/2.0L combo. Ughh don't give me any ideas! :D
