Guys, I challenge you to bump it up a little (lot?) and include some photos taken (by other than the pilots hopefully) of approaches to the world's top ten "Most Extreme Airports" as seen on, I believe, the History Channel. Not that we haven't seen dramatic shots here already, but I think the most extreme airports would be awesome shots.

Regards,
Bob

With it being the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, here's a few from Biggin Hill. Sorry for the quality but the photos were taken from the back seat with a point and shoot by the mrs.

Years back, I was delivering a Champ to Sedona, but it broke down in Las Cruces and the owner had to knock the wings off and trailer it back. I was really counting on that view on final. Its still based there..

On final at Dillingham Airfield on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii in a Schweizer glider. It was actually cheaper to take a lesson with a CFI than go for a pleasure ride. I paid for half an hour but we found some thermals and stayed up longer, I was in the front seat but the CFI was handling the landing.

SFO - Simulated Flame Out Approach. Rather than our typical 2.5 degree approach, SFOs are much steeper (as you can see in the picture)...usually between 10-20 degrees. The SFO is the practice version of the much more critical FO (flame out) approach and is typically performed as a 360 degree pattern beginning roughly 8-10k feet above the runway, but is also often practiced as a straight-in or random entry approach at Gila Bend because the field is conveniently aligned as you return to Luke from the southern ranges.

I never knew there was a field at Gila Bend...

Just before turning on final at Gillespie from the front seat of a Stearman...

There's Gila Bend Muni (E63? IIRC) and then there's the Gila Bend Auxiliary field that belongs to Uncle Sugar.

We camped right near the four or five planes at the bottom edge of the frame right off the end of 27

That was Hal Ewing's twin beech. We had a formation of three planes returning from Daytona Beach where they held the press conference for the TICO Airshow that year.
