I have a 135L and am looking at a 100L. If you own both, do both lenses get much use or does one stay at home all the time? If so, which one. Thanks.

I have the 85L and 135L, I don't see any need for a prime between those two focal lengths.

I used to have the non L 100 Macro and the 135...

The 100 got its walking papers in fairly short order. More because I really don't shoot macro however. It was a freakishly sharp chunk of glass...

I have to confess... I do own the non-L 100mm macro and it is sharp. This is a well worn coin but these are good examples of what it can do.

Wow, another lens for Apollo!? And you haven't even received your new 35L yet!

BTW: I am waiting for my 100L to come in next week :P I think it'll be a worthy upgrade to my non-L 100mm.

Second BTW: let me know if you're interested in a 100mm 2.8 Non L! hehe

I have both. To me, both lenses are specialised lenses. None of them sits on my camera at all time. That said, since I bought the 100L, 135L has become even more specialised - used only when this 135 mm lens is best for the situation.

I bought the 135L when I had a 100 f/2.8 macro. That was because what 135L could do 100 f/2.8 couldn't. Later I upgraded the macro to the IS version because the IS helped better with my hand-held close ups.

I'm looking at the 85L how is it like?

It's a "Love / Hate" relationship...

People who own one love it while those who don't hate those who do... ;)

I own the 135mm, love it love it love it. But I am a gear head, and the grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side. Whether it be camera gear, computer, TVs, whatever, I always lust for something new (I should see a pysch)

So now I have the 100mm/L. Problem is I haven't had time to test it yet. But I got a niece's bday party this weekend and will get to test it out extensively in real life situations.

 I own a 85L1.2II and a 135L2.0 and 300L2.8non IS... and already I am wondering if 135L2.0 is really necessary, it's just a few steps difference between the two :o ... so  100mm, I can't imagine what it will bring more than 135L2.0...

These are different lenses for different purposes. I am considering repurchasing the 135 for portraits and keeping the 100L for macro. The 135 is faster in every way, the AF on the 100L for portraits drives me batty and the extra stop on the 135L is missed. I regret selling mine.

If you do mostly macro get the 100, if you do mostly portraits get the 135, and if you shoot both and are on a tight budget get the 100 but be prepared for a compromise.

Good luck, have fun!!

Cheers,

I had the 85L at one point but I had to sell it...:(

I have the 135L which I will start using more when I start doing headshots but I was also looking if the 100L might be a better option...guess the only way to find out is to rent the 100L IS and compare it with the 135L I already have, during a headshot session.

sorry..just rambling on.

Just got the 35L and opened it up. It's pristine. Thanks DK. Believe it or not, I'm scaling down and getting rid of more than I'm buying.

Let me know the name of your shrink, I'm in the same boat.

Macro. I've been reading up on macro lately and I think I'm ready to take the plunge. That's why I'm so hung up on what I'll do with the 135. I love it but it doesn't get much use. My 85 1.8 is on the way out.

I shoot mostly portraits, but want to to get into macro. I'm trying to be budget minded. I may just end up picking up the 100L and waiting to see how much love the 135 gets after that. Just trying to keep the lens inventory at a minimum.

I own both the 100L and 135L. I use the 100L as a macro only. In all other situation I use the 135L. I love my 135L and not sure if I'm willing to part with it yet. The 135L is a f2 and that's still enough reason to keep it around.
