I use Sandisk Extreme III 32 GB cards (happy trigger finger) in my 7D and just purchased a used 5D classic from a member here. Will these cards work in the 5D? I read somewhere that it wouldn't read anything above 8GB. I read somewhere else that there was a firmware update to read higher capacity cards, but I can't get a definitive answer if these particular cards will work. If they won't, I want to make sure I order a different card before the camera gets here. Thanks!

Thanks for the link. Looks like it will not work. Bummer. But, thanks!

I really can't see why you'd want or need a 32GB card in a 5D. Just get a 4GB or 8GB card - they are cheap these days. I run through two 16GB cards with my 7D when I'm shooting wildlife, but with my 5D I can shoot a 4GB card all day and still have room for more pics (I mostly shoot landscapes in single shot mode with the 5D)

have you tried it? i thought it would have the same problem older cameras have, which is it won't show an accurate count for pictures remaining but would save pictures fine. of course you cannot format in camera otherwise you';ll need to reformat/repartition the card.

The reason I am asking the question is because I already have 2 32 GB cards and I would like to use one in each camera. The reason I can't try it is because I just purchased the 5D and it won't be here until next week. But I would hate to have the camera show up and my cards don't work. I don't want to wait another 3-4 days to order one online or pay a lot of money for a 4/8 GB card at Best Buy or Target or something.

It may sound simple, but if you HAVE CARDS.... Why not try one. Stick it in the 5D and format it and see if it formats to 32GB or not. If it doesn't then stick it in the other camera and reformat it back to 32GB...

I appreciate everyone trying to help, but I feel that, besides Quad, no one has actually read either of my messages.

Huh, well I dont know about 32GB cards, but I use a 16GB in mine with the firmware update and have had no issues. I really dont see why a 32GB wouldnt work, but what do I know?

Well, I got the 5D and formatted a 32 gb Extreme 3 card in it and it worked. It showed 32 gb and everything was fine. After a few shots, the mirror fell off the 5D, but that's a different thread.

Damn so that is what is causing the mirrors to fall off. I guess that is why sandisk have not qualified them.

Thanks for reporting back it is good to know that the 32 GB cards work in the 5D.

Now the final test is to fill up the 32 GB card just to be sure it works to capacity. That should take a while. :D
