Plain raw only 1936x1288?

When I set my XTi to shoot the plain RAW style,( in other words, not the "RAW + L"), the resulting images are only 1936x1288, which is the "S" size. The only way to get the full 3888x2592 sized RAWs is to use "Raw+L".

Is this standard or do I have a problem? The setup screen says the RAW only size is 3888x2592 but that is clearly not the case.

TIA for any help here.

Are you viewing the RAW files in Fast Stone by chance?

Are you looking at the size of the RAW file itself or the embedded JPG? Which program are you viewing them in?

It's probably looking at the embedded JPG in the RAW file - the preview image you're looking at. Try opening it in a program which can edit the RAW itself and see what it says.

Yeah - that was it. When I open in DPP and move the cursor to the lower right corner for the pixel reference, it's the full 3888x2592 size. Thanks for the heads up. I'd have scratched the ol' cocoanut for about the next decade trying to figure that out...

Forgot Irfanview does that too. Fast Stone and Irfanview are the two I know of that do this.

Not sure why you use IrfanView - once you zoom in it resolves detail worse than the standard viewer in good old Microsoft :) (at least 2 years ago)

If you want to edit your photographs DPP (Digital Photo Professional) is a very capable tool when it comes to plain RAW editing.

Irfanview is very light and very quick. I used to use it to preview files for culling purposes, before I upgraded my PC to something that handles my 5D's files more easily in DPP and CS5.

What about Adobe Bridge :)
Let it run once - once it has the previews its pretty quick.

At least my Vaio handle's the 5D MK II's files fine.

Bridge ran molasses-slow on my P4 2.4 with 1.5GB RAM. Thus, Irfanview. :)

Pentium 4 and 1,5GB RAM... I think you need a new computer :)
My 13,3" 2 year old laptop beats that :D

2,5GHz Core2Duo and 4GB RAM (3 usable - 32Bit OS) :D

I'm with Brett - my PC is 5 years old (AMD 64, 2.4GigHz, 1 Gb RAM, etc etc.) and IrfanView is the fastest and easiest graphic viewer out there - and I've tried them all.
