3. - I know the hair in her face is not good, just didn't catch it until after the shoot. I would love to have this shot over.

#1 - Personally I am not a big fan of the over-processed look but that's just me. I think you can do without the vignetting. Clouds are blown. You cloned out the lamp well, and needed to be.
#2 - Pretty girl. Definitely the best of the set. Seems a little flat and dark. Bit too much space in the right, but would suspect that a cut car would be distracting. I like the pose, but maybe a portrait view, without cutting off her L hand would be better.
#3 Yes, the hair in her face is an issue but you can clone that out. However, the main thing is the background, which is too busy. Less busy-ness and a shallower DOF.

Keep it up. Having lessons with a local photographer is a great idea and something this amateur might also do ;-)a

cheers, Paul

#2 is a nice shot. Good job learning from someone higher up the food chain than you. I do that as well. Before you know it you'll be passing your teacher up if you do the work:)

I would use fill flash for the portraits. Btw what does the photographer think about the photos?

He was a fan of the SOC shot of the ferris wheel (except for the lamp post) but he hasn't seen the pp'd version yet. He wants me to adjust to shoot with more exposure on most of my portrait shots... they were a little too dark for him...2/3 of a stop probably. He thinks that is the way you should capture "eyes" and "facial features" and then using masks bring the rest of the image back to a normal exposure... that way they don't look "processed" but you still get them to pop... Where we were there weren't a lot of choices for backgrounds... it was either the ferris wheel (which might be too busy) or the underneath of a bridge... but that shows me how important location can be too.

Looks to me that the pics of the girl would be much better at about 2.8, as it looks like they were shot at 5.6

Top marks for the slow shutter shot in one and whilst I'm not a fan of the processing, the image carries it well on this occasion. The only problem is getting into a "style" rut where even your granny looks green with a purple perm.
