EXIF data has been stripped, no way to tell your photo settings. Also what lens and was there a UV filter on it?

First things that come to mind:

- cheap UV?
- exposure leads me to believe you did not have an high enough ISO to allow for a fast enough shutter

But all speculation at this point with out any facts.

I don't think either a UV filter or shutter speed is causing the change about 1/3 down from the top of the photo. Something is wrong there. My first guess is the shutter, but I'm literally just guessing.

seems like there is definately some sort of software issue going on there... cant see how hardware (lens / filter etc...) could cause the line in the middle of the shot and cause it to not be lined up

A shutter probably wouldn't cause a line that even and sharp nor the colour change; my first guess would be memory card and after that something electronic in the camera.

I didn't see the line, oops. Yes, that looks more like a memory card issue, based on all the other memory card topics we have seen.

Shutter speed is too low though. ISO should be bumped to 400, and the shutter upped a bit more. :)

well i hope the problem is linked to the Power Supply and not linked to a CF card because i have 8 8Gb 60mb/s from Sandisk and 8 8Gb 90mb/s from Transcend, might be tough finding the culprit when i bear in mind that they all funtioned on my good old 40D i used as back up and my friends 7D when he ran out off cards

Did you get the same results across multiple cards? Did you try to download the files via USB from the camera reading the card, versus plugging the card into a reader?

If you look to the right of the line... it looks like the lower part overlaps a photograph - strange indeed... good luck getting it fixed!

I have had similar effects from almost all of my bodies, and it always came down to a bad CF card. Every time I get these split-image issues it was always before a CF card crapped out on me. So far it's happened twice, and both times the card was the culprit.

I've also seen this issue come up from other people, and it's been related to reading/writing to the card, and an issue with the software in the body. I haven't had that type of problem yet, but I'm sure it can easily happen.

And yes, I've had CF cards go bad in my 40D. It happens unfortunately, sometimes they go bad. I had an 8 Gig Sandisk that gave me about 15 shots like yours in a matter of an hour or so, and not too long after that the card finally just stopped working. Couldn't retrieve photos (luckily at the time there weren't many on it), couldn't format it either in the camera or on the computer, it was dead. So I switched to another card and the problem was gone.

Hopefully it is related to the power issues. Losing power or shutting off power while writing to the card does weird things.

If not, it does look like a bad card. Try formatting.

Another reason why [edit] some pros prefer to shoot a 1D writing to both cards just in case. Don't want to lose shots from a paid shoot.
