I'm going on a trip to Montreal tomorrow, it's for my Daughters soccer team. I take lots of pics of the games, and I've been shooting raw only since I started (with the rebel and now the 20d). This has been fine for one game, one day. But I only have a 1gig and a 512meg card. Shooting Raw+jpeg Small, I've come very close to filling the 1gig card many times in just one game (the 20d shoots fast :) ). I need these 2 cards to last all weekend, with the potential of 5 games and seeing the sites. So I know I'm gonna have to use jpeg or run out of memory very quickly.
Also, I've been using aRGB, and I've not really tested out using parameters, so I'm not sure on how one might best use them for hopefully finished photos.

With the plan/hope of gettings shots right the 1st time,

-should I use aRGB or switch to sRGB
-make a custom parameter to get a more finished looking shot
-anything I'm not thinking of ?

I've never really tried post processing a jpeg, but I know it's best if you don't have to. Any pointers you may have for getting the greatest amount of keepers would be a great help.
I may change to raw for the odd shot here or there, but I'm pretty much stuck using jpeg for most of the next 3-4 days.

I turn up the saturation and sharpness a notch when I shoot JPG, apart from that just check your histogram to make sure you're exposing the photos properly. Also, try and be more selective about what photos you take, obviously. Take your charger/tv cable so you can review pictures later and delete the ones you don't like. Stick with sRgb unless you have a good reason not to, people will tell you about a wider gamut but if you print them or put them on the web you'll probably have to convert to sRgb first anyway, and conversions involve loss of information. Try to find a cyber cafe somewhere in the city. Burn a cd and clean off the cards.

I bought the I Pod with the photo connector thinking I could use a USB CF card reader to download my images from the card to the I Pod w/o using my camera...nope   You have to connect the I Pod to the camera connector them to the camera via a standard USB cable. This would be OK for this situation, but let’s say you only have two cards and would like to keep shooting wile downloading to your I Pod, this would not work.

I ended up getting a P2000, it works great! :D Got mine for $400 US. Evan though I have tons of cards I still like to “clean them off” when in the field for long missions. It’s more of a toy when you have lots of cards though. I got it to show people in third world countries there picture on a screen, when they don’t even have a mirror in there home to look at. The kids love looking at themselves on screens….they get a real kick out of it ;)

Another thing, when using RAW and transferring to the I Pod, it takes forever!! I mean forever….at least with my Mk2 it did. I assume that if you just shot in JPEG it would go faster? :(
I could see this setup work if you shot all day on a set of CF cards, then went back to the hotel and slept wile off loading them?

Well, surprised to this topic still alive. I did shot all weekend with jpeg/large. My first time without using raw.
When I got home and downloaded, I separated them into time zones of when they were taken. Make a long strory short, I did some PP on each folder. I'm fairly happy with the outcome.
I'm no expert with raw, but it is all I've worked with since I starting post processing photos. So using only jpegs was new to me. I think I did ok.

Here are all the photo's I've shared with the parents and players that weekend.

Many parents replied that they were more than pleased with them. I was happy with them, but knew they could be so much more with raw. But I got by it seems.

Perhaps not directly related to your case but I've found External (laptop 2.5") hard drives and a card reader are the go (5 weeks in europe with only a 2 gig card) most internet cafes have computers with 2 usb ports and you can switch photos onto the hard drive.

And you can write your emails while you wait :)
