To accomplish that, you don't set anything. That's the default.

Guess I will have to return to the manual to see whats the default setting. Bought this pre-owned and pretty much continue using it.

Soon. I will need to send the 50D back to service centre for a health check before the warranty expires.

If you want to, there are commands to reset the camera to default settings. Just note that there are two such commands, one to reset everything in the menus except the custom functions, another to specifically reset the custom functions.
