How do you all like this bag?
I have a Crumpler 5MDH, however when I purchased this bag, I only had a 40D and a 50 1.8.

I am looking for a shoulder bag that can hold a 5D2 w/ 24-70, 17-40, 100 2.8, 50 1.8, and my Speedlite.

that should fit nicely on the 7mdh but it will be really heavy!

I reckon you could get away with a 6MDH? I have the 5MDH and I can fit a 5DII with 24-70, a 580ex and 70-200. Tight fit, but it works.

Seriously? The 5MDH is way too small for my taste ... not sure I even feel comfortable carrying my 5D + 24-70 in there.

Well, realistically, I will only be carrying my 5D, 24-70,17-40, 50 1.8, and my 430EX. I only carry my macro when I know I will be using it.
I normally carry other smaller things too -extra battery, charger, rocket blower, CF cards, et cetera.

Hopefully not too heavy. I am currently using the Lowepro Fastpack (backpack) and I carry what I mentioned above in it. I am looking into a 7MDH because when I am walking around town, I don't always want to carry a backpack ... it just looks and feels funny. Also taking off my backpack to switch lens all the time is a PITA. The 7MDH seems like a nice cross between style and functionality. The colors are a nice plus.

A bit pricey for a bag though, so I was seeking other thoughts on this bag.

The 7MDH should suit you fine. You always want to leave room for future purchases. No sense going with the 6MDH if you're planning on picking up more gear in the near future. But it will be heavy.

I just threw my grey Crumpler 8 MDH up on ebay (now looking for a backpack). It was just way too big and heavy for a messenger style bag (for me, IMO). So hard finding the right size bag.

It's my favourite bag since I got it more then a year ago :D

The 7MDH will fit my 40D gripped with 17-55 + hood reversed, 70-200 F2.8L IS + hood reversed, 100 F2.8L IS Macro + hood reversed and the 580EX2. Of course, this setup gets quite tiring on the shoulders after a couple of hours.

So it should be able to fit all your gears comfortably, since the 70-200 already weighs about 1.5kgs

Well, I don' foresee any major lens purchases or anything for a good long while now. But, definitely something to keep in mind.
Finding the right size bag is hard, for sure! :D
I assume the 7MDH bag itself isn't too heavy. I shouldn't have more than 6-7 pounds of equipment in it at a time.

24-70 - 2.1 lbs.
17-40 - 1.1 lbs.
5D2 - 1.8 lbs.
430EX - 1-1.5 lbs.?
About 6-7 lbs. total.

My handful of accessories are small and light, so those are practically negligible.

I guess I can switch shoulders when one gets tired :)

I have been shooting at the Montreal Jazz Festival with a 6 MDH. 5DII gripped, Tamron 28-75/Canon 70-200 F4 IS, Canon 300 F4 IS. I think for the gear listed, the 6 would suite you fine.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Yeahp, that's what I do too. For the gear you've listed, it will fit in nicely with some room to spare.

Although like what bohdank said, the 6MDH should also fit your gears nicely.

Exciting. I got a new model 6 MDH and it seems big enough to fit all your gear. A friend has an older 5 MDH and it seems just as big as my new 6. Maybe the older models were bigger? But a little extra can't hurt to maybe store some other miscellaneous.

Eh... my 5MDH fit my T1i + 17-55 mounted + 430EX + 55-250 + 11-16 if I needed. Plus spare memory cards + battery.

The 11-16 would be a tight squeeze, but all that was not a problem.

Now I currently stuff a T1i with either the 11-16 or 55-250 and my 7D + 17-55.

I mean it's a tight fit, but it fits. I think a lot of people balk at the 5MDH too easily, but realize it can fit a LOT of stuff. The 6MDH won't make too much of a difference. I feel like if I'm gonna upgrade itll be a 7MDH... but heavy shoulderbags are no fun also...

I guage a bags useability by how it works in the field. It needs to be able to do more than just hold the equipment. I need to be able to have direct access to everything so I can switch lenses, safely and quickly, without having to put the bag down.

I can fit all my gear into the bag

XSI, 17-40, 50mm f1.8, 70-200 f/4, 580EXII, hotshoe core.
and still room for water bottle.
In the future when I have two body I think it still fit.

the only problem I have is accessibility, It's hard to get the thing you put on the bottom of the bag.
But that is the problem every bag will have.
