I got a vip media pass to take photos for Pride Toronto. Cyndi manager had lots of restrictions for the media, NO flash what the heck, good thing I took the 5D II and bumped up the ISO to 6400 and got that new 70-200mm F2.8 IS II lens.

She came out after 9pm but was still able to capture good photos.

Nice job! Great concert, I'm sure. Clean, sharp images are wonderful. Looked like you were standing close up.

Yes Suzy, I was standing about 10 to 12 feet from the stage.

They had the area right in front of the stage reserved for media.

I have to head back down now to do the parade and other concerts. Did not have time to process the photos and just did a few.

I got some good after concert photos of Dragonette. :) She is very beautiful and attractive too and people friendly.

Not a Fan of the first as I find it very unflattering. I like 2 a lot. 3 and 4 are good and would have been great if it wasn't fir the mic stand.

No flash is totally normal for concerts.

Thanks for posting ... I will be shooting her later this year and had no clue. We will be restricted to shooting from the sound board about 50-70' away from the stage. As the female entertainers get older they have more restrictions on photography, but then so does my wife! LOL.

Dwight, this was my first time ever taking photos of a concert.

I did not know it's normal for the media to only get 3 songs and they have to leave after. At least her lady manager told me that I could stay and watch the rest of the concert but if I took any more pictures I would be thrown out.

I left after a few songs to go cover local Canadians Ivanna Santille, & Jully Black.

At least for this concert I was no more than 10 feet away.

I had a backstage pass too, but Cyndi she dictates her own restrictions and entourage to watch the media.

I have a question for you photographers that shoot events with flash. How do you set the flash duration that it can freeze motion? I shot a few other events where they were jumping up and down and around etc but there was motion blur on those flash photos. I tired a faster shutter speed that only resulted in a darker background.

I don't think the flash duration is the problem: A 580EX has a longest flash duration of about 1/900s (at full power). At lower power, the flash duration is (way) shorter.
The motion blur is caused by the ambient.

Yep. And less motion I presume.

All you can do is use a higher ISO and (thus) higher shutterspeeds. And time well so you shoot at the highest part of the jump. (they are stationary then). Or use flash as main light: No ambient = no motion blur.
