Hello all, has any infrared photographers out there removed the internal IR blocking filter from a G2 camera?

Today my co-worker removed the filter but I didn't replace the filter with a plain glass filter as some people have mentioned. We got the camera together and now the camera does not focus?

I'm thinking one of two things happened here the first one is that we did not put the camera back together properly OR the internal IR filter effects the focusing? I can't even focus manually which leads me to believe something went wrong with the assembly?

I'm going to stop by our glass shop in the morning to see if they can cut me a plain piece of glass to put back into the camera. The filter is roughly 10mm x 10mm x 6mm.

Thanks

At the top of this forum.. the first post in fact.. the stickjy thread should help you out.

When replacing the ir high pass filter.. the thickness of the replacement glass is essential for proper AF... thus by niot having it at all you are definitely going to have problems.

A random peice of glass from the galss shop is unlikely to work either i;m afriad..
Check out Don's post and his step by step proceedure.. he also mentions some source for the replacement glass.

Thanks, I found the page on Don's site about the modification.
Now I will look at Edmund's Scientific for a proper piece of glass.

You can delete this tread if you wish?

Thanks again.
