I just got Aperture & when I plug in my camera to my computer to upload my pictures they go into Aperture. After editing images it says they are around 6 MP. From there I drag them into a folder on my desktop. When I do this it changes my MP to 1.6. Why is it doing this & how do I stop it????

You might want to double check but I think dragging to the desktop only creates a link to the original images and does not copy/move the file.
If you want to move/copy the image to the desktop you need to use the Export command.

both.... it turns the pics from 6.3 MP to 1.6 MP and 2.36 MB to 349 KB. After I have been editing an image I drag it to a folder on my desktop & delete it from Aperture & now I don't have the original pic :( (I have already checked the trash for them & have recovered a few but not all)

When I export an image it keeps the original MB & MP but then when I go to open that file from my desktop it says : "The application Preview can't be opened -600"

when you drag and drop aperture takes the preview jpg. so it is all dependant on your preview settings.

for full control use the export option. its a lot slower.

Seconding Zincozinco - when you drag an image from Aperture, you are only pulling out the Preview JPG - not the full, rendered and exported JPG.

You should get photos out by using the Export feature.

As another possibility - are you shooting in RAW on your camera? If so, you're importing a RAW file (MUCH bigger than a JPG), but exporting a JPG - that will account for size differences.

I wouldn't be deleting the files from Aperture afterwards either - just leave them there, you may need to come back in later and edit or adjust.
