Decided to ditch bootcamp and installed Parallels Desktop on my Macbook instead... re-installed Windows 7 as well (as beta version expired) and I have to say I'm very impressed so far. I didn't realise that all document / picture / movie / music folders were shared across both OS's using a common HD partition so any changes made in W7 are reflected in OSX and vice versa.

The end result will be that I probably use W7 more often and actually learn some of its little nuances a bit better as when it first came out I was quite impressed on the surface but didn't spend much time using it.

Also, glad I chose the 4gb RAM option! :)

The new 70cm Deep Octa from Elinchrom looks interesting...

Interesting indeed. But would kinda be doubling up with the Setti.

Einstein update (due to their 220-240V screwup):

Good to see his supporters at FM see this as a positive, however.

Yeah. I think it's a good thing our guys here won't get them until next year, as it basically means the beta testing is bring done by the Yanks.

 Next year huh.... that's if they beta testers don't find more problems.

While we're sort of on the topic of lighting. I've just ordered a PW set and an extra 580EX II and am looking at a diffuser. I have 2 shoot through umbrellas I use for almost everything.

My question, I'd like one nice beauty diffuser, I'm looking at the QikBox with the dual speedlight mount. Should I go for the Octa Box or just a standard Softbox?

Why not a beauty dish + reflector for beauty stuff?

Edit:

I've decided on the Quadra set, as I'm just an amateur I think it'll be perfect for all my needs. The money saving and having 2 heads, lighter and not having to buy the skyport trigger are some selling points.

My accountant has advised that my tax return might be near 100% as I can still claim my Helicopter License expenses. Hearing this and talking to a couple of wedding photogs I'm looking at the Quadra set instead of the 580EX / PW shiz.

I'm the sort of over research and be happy with my decision kind of guy. That's why I jump around from idea to idea until I find what will be best.

Now, the much talked about, Ranger RX vs Quadra. I'd like to be a single light in most circumstances sort of guy and 8kgs isn't all that heavy. This leads me towards the Ranger RX single head and use the 580EX I already have as a hair / rim light. I'd end up with insane power and pretty good portability. Most of my work recently has been on the beach or at the park family portrait sort of stuff.

Hope I've given enough info and I'll pay my tax soon =P

Cheers

And there is that, yes.

I'd buy both :-)

Seriously, for outside, and a single light, here in Australia, I think the Ranger. Although I used the Quadra last week, and overdid the "overpowering" thing...

However, the Quadra gives some redundancy with heads.

Thanks. It was at Nobu restaurant at Crown Casino. De Niro is an owner of Nobu - the presser was to promote Nobu and the film he's in town shooting, The Killer Elite.

@Richard,great shot that face is just full of character. I think he would have fitted in well with 'The Rat Pack' back in the day.

Thanks guys.

It's not often you get the chance to shoot a Hollywood legend. The fact that The Godfather (1 & 2), Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Meet The Fockers all feature as some of my favourite movies makes it pretty special.

Richard - nice though is he talkin to you? :P

Luke - Quadra is very versatile unless you need gobs of power to get through layers of diffusion in bug modifiers or enjoy shooting at diffraction softening apertures.I know for a fact I wouldn't have lugged lighting with me on a number of occasions had it not been for it's portability.

I like that one a lot, blackshadow :)

Just back from my wedding. The sky more or less cooperated, the celebrant was erm not so cooperative and MOVED the whole processional so they walked behind all the guests - calling out directions the whole time - and then bam everyone was up where the groom was. Not helpful in shooting the cutie flower girls tossing petals and I don't know if I got a single shot of it as I scrambled to a new location. And then he stood in front of them the whole ceremony. Cool beans, man.

Thanks. Sounds like the celebrant had an over inflated sense of self importance.

@Rai,really nice colour in this shot and perhaps the title would be....'if we ignore him he'll go away.'
