+1 for 24-105. As we already mentioned: better IQ/sharpness, weather sealed and L-build quality, longer range, constant aperture....this may go on and on.
It all depends on how much you need that 15mm wide angle on a crop. I really liked my 24-105 on the 7D, but only on the 5D2 I realized what a great lens it is.
But 24-105 is a no brainer to me.

+1 for the 24-105. I don't think you will miss the missing 23mm focal length at all, don't worry about that.

I really liked my 24-105 but found the maximum aperture to be too small, so decided on going primes. If it wasn't for that, the lens would still be used with my 40D.

If you can afford it - primes are the best! Nothing better than a 35L/50L/85L/135L quartet :)
But as a single lens that "can-do-it-all" with "I-know-limitations", 24-105 is my #1 choice.

with the 10-22 EF-S there isn't much need for the wide end of the 15-85, with a UWA I would go with the 24-105L if I were you, without the option of another lens for wide the 15-85 is a GREAT lens for the job!

If you think 24-105 on 5D is great the only logical conclusion is to think 15-85 equally great on a crop.

As always these decisions mostly revolve around what it is you want to do. I use the 24-105L on both the 5D MkII and 7D. For the landscape and aerial work I do it has proved most satisfactory. Be fore it I had the 24-70 f2.8, which I donated to my son. For street photography, which I also do a lot of, the range out to 105 mm, especially on the 7D is very usefull.

It is a sharp lens, a comment often given about some of my 16 x 20 prints is "that's insanely sharp!".

The 10-22 is a lightweight and sharp lens, if the 7D is the camera of the day that is the other lens that goes in the walking bag. With the 5D perhaps the less lightweight but excellent 70-200 F2.8 goes in the bag as the backup.

Cheers: T

I own the 15-85 and rented the 24-105 just to try it out today on my 7D. I missed the wide end of the 15-85, and found myself not needing the long end of the 24-105, at least today. It is a bulkier lens as well (slightly) that fit tighter in the bag.

Sharpenss is equal between these to to my eye.

Bottom line, I'm keeping the 15-85.

I have an 18-50 f/2.98 and I bought the 24-105L f/4 IS just to have as a general walk around lens. Since I got it, I have used it more than I ever thought I would. the 18-50 has not been on my camera for about a year. I mainly use my 70-200 f/2.8, 85 f/1.8 and the 24-105

Its all depends what you need , do you use UWA ? Do you wan't one all-around lens ? Do you need weather sealing ? Do you need red ring ? ect and ect.

I was in similar position as you and i'm decided for 15-85 for my 7D but i don't need weather seling , i'm using 15 mm a lot for landscapes and architecture , and 85mm its more than i need , IQ its great on 15-85 don't get fooled yourself .

Just my 2 c.

I think I'm leaning towards the 24-105 for the following reasons: fixed f.4; less overlap with the 10-22, longer telephoto range. The disadvantages, as compared to the 15-85, is the gap between the where the 10-22 ends and the 24-105 really begins, and the price. Considering the types of photos I historically take, does it make sense to save some money and get the 15-85, or will I regret not getting the 24-105?

I think you should know from your previous experience, which focal range is your style.
as long as you keep the crop factor of your camera sensor in mind, I don't think you could go wrong with your own style.

also, from my experience, fl overlap, especially for travel is great.

lastly, if you're one of those people who puts brand/price as a factor, it's better to just get the 24-105 and never look at the 15-85. I think most people who owns 24-105 did this and call it a day, after all, it's more expensive, has a fixed f-stop and a nice red ring, it should be more superior, right?
