CC Dog Shot

I took this in my backyard. I had some other shots with greater DoF (which I liked better) but this was the best shot of my dog so I wen't with this one. The banding in the sky is just b/c I reduced the quality to post it and I PP'd the collar out in photoshop. Thanks!

In the future, see if you can arrange some fill on the shadow side. This can be as simple as a large white anything. Like foam board.
Give shadows and highlights a try in photoshop.

I like how youve got the low angle but as poloman stated, the shadows are more or less solid black.

I'll keep that in mind for future shots, thanks guys.

I love dogs and invest many hours with my camera and canines.

I like the intent of your image, but immediately felt confounded by the invisibility of your dog's right ear. Dog's ears express so much of their emotion! This was compounded by not being able to see the expression in your dog's eyes. Eyes and ears speak volumes when you're reading a dog.

I note some grey on the muzzle? And love the smile!

If your dog understands some English, and has favorite activities, maybe saying "car ride" or "cookie" might get your dog's attention and looking at you with a nice quizzical look or excited smile.
