I was just wondering if anyone here was involved with their local 4th of July celebration? Or the first for those in Canada. And if you did, what all did you do?

I was at our local parade today and I got some ideas for next year.

Firstly, it was very hot, no clouds and all sun. I had the idea that if it was not to expensive, I could get some fans made up with my business information on it to give out to the crowd. :)

Then after I seen some small businesses having people walk in the parade with a banner, I got thinking I should try to do this next year if I do well with senior portraits during the 2010/2011 school year. I would ask some of the seniors that I worked with to see if they would want to walk with the banner, and pay them a reasonable amount for this And get some other kids to hand out bags of candy to people in the crowd, with a business card inside and/or a coupon.

Perhaps also setup a stand with the other merchants and sell some of my artistic prints, and have some large framed family portraits in the back and bring my appointment book.

Just some ideas I had today while I waited the hour and some for the parade to start.

Valley Forge National Park, a site that played quite the role during America's fight for independence. This was where the Muhlenberg Brigade "hung out" back in the winter of 1776.

This was my first time shooting a "shooting" :-) Let's just say that IS does not compensate for ME jumping 10 feet in the air when the cannon went off

Strange i would think that the resident's of England would celebrate the opportunity to be rid of us radical rebellious colonials....... :)

I guess the queen was in Ottawa on July 1st, would have been cool to see her. I missed her by two weeks. :)

She's going to New York soon, I believe, so you have another chance.

Waterdown, Ontario (amalgamated with Hamilton by force, not choice) featured an inaugural ribfest over the long weekend thanks to our two local Rotary clubs spear-heading the effort. It certainly was the place to be in our village and was exactly what we needed to bring everyone out for some fun, not to mention tasty food fare.

I covered the event for the local newspaper and donated my time to the event to provide them a library of images to help promote next year's event. A sampling can be seen here: Oh Canada Ribfest (external link)

Hot, humid, intense harsh light but fun none the less.
