Hmm. Good question. Everyone has their means.. I work two jobs and still don't make enough. Probably why I don't ever buy gear.

I bought a used Smith & Wesson first. The camera money came rather quickly after that.

Learn what your IQ number is, determine the highest paying job you could do with that IQ level, get the required education and go to work in that field.
Envy will get you nowhere, invest in work instead.

Or skip the IQ crap because it's a standardized test with little real world merit, learn that intelligence is relative, go do something you enjoy and figure out how to make a career of it. Save up, invest, repeat.

or make some rich friends and tell them its your birthday :)

People make it sound so easy. But it must be for some because so many of you have stuff. I told my wife we could make $200k per year and still be broke. Maybe after they take my home and car I'll have money for gear.

Those who have money to invest in gear are very fortunate. I am very fortunate to afford the gear I have. It is little in comparison to what some on this forum have but it is much more than the average person has so I am blessed.
Plus I can learn and see what all the gear is capable of right here so when I do upgrade I know what to get and what to get it for.
Cameras and gear are expensive but knowledge is priceless. :)

well I did use 12months 0% interest on my first dslr... I have already sold it and I am still paying for it now and for the next 4months.

but when I upgraded, I bought everything in cash, saved me a lot of money in discounts and I have no debt to worry about.

I do that. Save till I can afford to pay cash. Then no money trail. ;)
