Lensmen, My plan now is too buy a telephoto lens and strengthen my skill level while saving money yo upgrade my camera and lenses in the future.
I have the 18-55 IS that came with my XS, I will be using my canon 50mm for indoor portraits, and am trying to get the best possible deal on either a canon 55-250 IS or a 70-300 IS to shoot both portraits and nature photography outside.
It has been said; "good things come to those who wait".
I am still able to make money as I learn and grow so I'm cool.

You are right. I should just put some money in a camera gear account and let it grow.:D

Why not put your camera equipment to work, and have it earn some money for your hobby? For example, my cousin turned his back yard into a series of sets he uses for taking childrens photos. He supports his family with the income generated from this simple idea.

I ditched the wife, sold our house and moved to a rental, that made for quite an impressive saving, now I only need to decide on what to get :)

the 70-300IS is a good walkabout lens for that price. Wish you good journey to your upgrade and hoped to see your shots here soon. ^-^

In the last three or four years, I have seadily climbed up the gear ladder. Started with an XT and a grip. Bought a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 used. Bought a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 new. Sold the XT and bought a 20D and a grip. Auctioned the farm and bought the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8. By this time I am shooting high school sports. When I bought the 1D MK3, I pulled the money out of my retirement kitty. Prolly was a bad move, but hey, it's a year too late. Shot a softball tournament and with the profit, bought a Canon 70-200 f/2.8...yadda, yadda, yadda the beat goes on. I make a little and spend a lot! :-)

Now I am working on a 300 f/2.8. That may have to wait a bit though.

wow!! you bought a 70-200mm f/2.8 with your profit from 1 tournament? wow!!!

I just jumped from 500D - D700 in 7months time as I don't want to steadily upgrade and end up spending more haha :)

The wife turned out to be a very expensive investment, psycologically and money wise, so at the moment i'm swearing off intimate relationships with members of the opposite sex out of scorn feelings and the need to recuperate.

It's not a sensitive subject at all, I chose to pull the plug after beeing faced with a psycological warfare from her part ( including the kids, our families, our friends ) which had been building over a couple of years, she's happy with someone else now, for all I know she could have had him lined up under the bleachers long ago..

Now I need to find myself and be at peace with my decissions, which made me once again take up photography, a long gone hobby I found very little time to pursue.
