Seems sharp enough-100% crop again. The previous had forward focused to a tree trunk about 5 feet in front of it. Canon AF never seems to be tight enough at the extreme range. I have to wait until Saturday to do direct comparisons to my 18-55mm IS copy, but this one looks pretty good. The reviews I've read (with crop shots) pretty much show the IQ is only marginally better than the 18-55mmIS, so I'm not expecting leaps and bounds improvement--most people are WAY too generous in their reviews.

Nah, seems rather good after my last batch of testing today. My first test shot was a tiny blip on my screen--I'm not shocked the focus wasn't tight.

I took 5 comparison shots in several levels of light, and in all cases but one (where they were discernibly equal, not counting bokeh) the 15-85mm was the CLEAR winner at 100% crop.

If anyone responds and requests comparison crops between the 18-55mm IS and 15-85mm IS, I'll upload them. The differences are quite striking really--greater than I was led to believe by looking at the shots on the-digital-picture
