Just because you haven't gotten larger JPEGs doesn't mean someone else hasn't. I have plenty on my hard disk that are bigger than 3.5MB. As downloaded from my 20D, unprocessed. Given the exclamation points ;), I've attached proof.

The 8.2MP Canon 20D does not mean you are going to get 8.2MB files.
8.2MP vs. 8.2MB is Not the same thing.

Absolutely. I never said it was the same. The original post spoke about megapixels, and indeed the dimensions of the JPEG files are 8.2 megapixels. The specification quoted said "megapixels", so I was pointing out that the limiting factor appears to be the dimensions of the image - not the size of the file.

The P2000 is nice as storage, but it's true the OS s*cks. Browsing is slow, making album is absolutly useless (renames the files !) no way to sort by filename and/or EXIF file, and I tried a few format and was never able to play any kind of video on it.
But it's still great to dump cards on and show pictures around, no doubt.

it only renames files when you make an album. just don't make albums if you have an issue with the naming scheme. personally, i don't think the OS is slow. i've probably copied a terrabyte or more to mine now and i don't have any major complaints. the minor ones are really minor. it's great for movies - it always gets me on my trips to japan and the states.

i'll probably check out the vision (and probably pick one up) on my next trip to singapore. i've been looking to pick up a second p2k anyway. if nothing else, i'll give it to my son if it isn't to my liking. and Devon, if you're reading this, wait until i check it out, first :p

:Attention:

Before you buy that product look at the Creative Forum, portable multimedia player and after the thread in name something like Creative zen vision, what the creative users says about creative isnt sweet stuff. I was looking forward to pre-order that product but after reading all those threads about the previous player and the support i finally decided to not buy it.
I do recomend look at I-Station I2, if you looking at a Multimedia player for mp3 use and image storeage. Altough it dosn't have the feture of CF card reader.

Which makes it pretty much useless for what most people here want one of these. Field backup of photos.

Thanks for the warning. Could probably have done it without the huge fonts though. :)

Digital Guy- the review said 8 Megapixels was the biggest it took. Like the P-2000 before the firmware upgrade.

anyone got one yet?

Well I dunno about Creative being unreliable, I have the first video player they came out with, the zen portable media center, its kinda clunky, but it has always worked like a charm and I use it often, especially for watching video on trips. I think the newer one looks like 500% better though, I am gonna get one and ebay this older one cuz I want the CF card reader and it looks so much cooler. It may not be better than the Epson in some ways, but it is a bit less expensive and for everyday use, snapshots, etc. I think it would be fine (at least for me). Now to decide whether to get it in black or white....hmmm.....

what pushed me away from the Creative Vision was one of my biggest pet peeves about my old Creative Nomad Zen... it doesn't mount as a generic USB External Hard Drive.

You can only access files on the Zen through alternate software and you can't open up files directly from the Zen, you have to copy and/or move them so you can't use it as a real permenant storage. This bugged me about the Zen, and it would bug me about the Vision, too.

Of course, the Epson P-2000 annoys me because of its 8.3 file name structure. I plan on carrying my MP3s on this thing too, and I don't want all my files renamed as album~1.mp3, album~2.mp3, album~3.mp3, etc.

i just returned from yet another trip through South East Asia (although i'm not home yet...) i purchased a Zen Vision and had a good play with it but ultimately returned it and got something else (i'll make another post a bit later). note that they are everywhere in HK but only a few places have them at the moment in S'pore, which is suprising as this is Creative's hometown...

the menu is much nicer and easier to use than the p2k. it is definitely a PMP and not a photo accessory. the CF offload speed is a little bit faster, but not blazingly faster. its initial display speed is much quicker than the p2k, but it's the same once the thumbnails are generated. it's a tiny bit thinner. this is about where the benefits end.

i got a black one, which had about 12 stuck pixels. i returned it, but the shop only had a white one. i reluctantly got that one as a replacement. the screen is a little bit smaller than the p2k, but sharpness and brightness don't even compare. the unit is only 30 gigs. it doesn't display raw images. as a PMP, it's a bit more media friendly than the p2k (less finicky about mp4 data rates and file sizes), but it still has its limits. it's great as a mp3 player, however. there is no print feature. the slideshow feature isn't as nice as the p2k. it includes the AV cable in the box, which is nice, but i got one for my p2k easily. you can synchronise with media player 10 and all of your files, which i thought would be a nice thing, but it ended up not being so handy. i was plagued by mediasource files no longer on my drive when i un-installed the software - i had to go into the registry to remove the references.

ultimately, the white unit i got crashed and died (i'm guessing it was the hard drive as it no longer vibrated upon power-up) which left me greatly worried. thank Gebus i was still around to return it. i can't compare how battery life compared to the p2k - they claim quite a bit longer. again it's a non-issue as i use a home-made external battery pack. i ended up getting a different PMP altogether and l'm completely happy with my trusty P2000 (i'll make about the other pmp shortly).
