Peoria Chiefs game on July 4. Awesome, patriotic jerseys.

I'm always open to comments & CC, so feel free to let me know what you think!

1. Never seen a pitcher cover their face so much during their windup.

Nice flattened ball/bent bat. Would like to see that one at higher shutter speed with action totally stopped.

Thanks, tmcman! My daytime ball photos are usually at 1/1600th shutter speed at wide-open aperature (f/2.8 or f/4 depending on lens used) and ISO 100-200 depending on lens.

Thanks again!

Mizzo:

Consider pushing your shutter up to 1/2000 for baseball and you will get a bit better action stop and still a tiny bit of motion blur. Use 400-800 ISO as needed and noise should be a non issue in good light.

Also, if you are shooting specifically for BOB shots, then 2, 4 and 6 are OK, but if you are shooting "stock" shots or editorial, you really need to see the players faces so they can be identified, and at the pro level this is rare when getting BOB, unless you get be really low on their open side and they swing late. At the youth level it is a bit easier to get both face and BOB as they tend to swing a bit later.

Cheers!

Chris

Chris,

Thanks for the feedback - I agree 100% about needing faces & such, however, from where I had seats this is all I could do. I do not have field access & such. Wish I did.

I appreciate the feedback!

Yep know what you mean about seats...I got really lucky last year at a Mariners /White Sox game and sat 2 rows behind photo well on 3B side and on same angle that all the accredited togs in it had...got some great games shots and will try to book those seats whenever I go to Seattle again.

I noticed that the team's site has NO photos from this year. I had debated (and actually drafted an e-mail) asking about making a deal for pit access... I just haven't been brave enough to pull the trigger on sending it... chicken, I guess.

I had 3rd row seats right next to the dugout once at a Cardinals game, but at that time I didn't have a 2.8 lens and it was a night game, so I didn't get many photos at that game. I should have planned ahead & rented a lens for that game, but I didn't.

Which lens were you using for these?

All of those posted above were with 300 f/4L (non-IS version). I think there might have been 1 in the whole set that I used my 70-200 f/2.8L IS at the end of the game.
